Thanks to the cold temps last week, I was able to pop a few larger rounds with the Fiskars.

I had a few more large ones, but they would not pop; even broke out the maul.

Felt good to get these opened up. I split, my wife stacked.

It was definitely cold here, so I imagine it was absolutely frigid up in Vermont :shiver: What species were those rounds determined to be? Bigtooth aspen? That’s great you and your wife teamed up to get it split/stacked

Good questions! The first one smelled like white wine when split and had a lot of black dashes inside. I think that second one may be Maple.

She absolutely loves stacking! It’s a perfect match!

I still enjoy hand splitting now and then. It was a nice brisk day for sure. Perfect for firewood making IMO. Wouldnt mind another month like this.

About the only time I hand split now is at the cutting sight if I can to make the big ones more manageable. Had the monster maul into some oak rounds today.

The cold temps help for sure. This week looks a little crazy with weather. This has been a very strange winter for sure.
