I have a new set of 3 leaf springs from Michigan Spring (stock height). I also have a pair of 27" overloads from a Chevy spring pack (Tuff Spring- 6" lift rear spring pack). The combo is haunting me. My goal would be to increase ride height and level the front with the rear, yet not cause the new springs to over compensate at the arch points on compression. Not sure how flat the new springs will sit when loaded. I'm not really concerned about ride quality, truck only see's 5K or less annually. So I'm curious- have you, or would you install the extra spring onto the pack? Thanks, JB.
I've never done it myself, but I know it can be done. My set for my CJ-7, I had a local place build the leaf pack on what I wanted the suspension to do.... Good Luck...
Thanks for the reply. I'm probably going to reshape the overload springs before I install them. If I screw them up I'm not out of anything. Even if they work I'll really only gain ride height, not ride quality. But.. heck. I won't know until I try, right? Keep you posted. JB
There you go! After a few calls and some "checkin' chit out", I've settled on a plan. So I'll invert the overloads and bolt 'em up. That should allow natural deflection until we get to negative arch, then the overloads will make contact and slow the compression. Buffing and painting leaf packs tonight, hope to get them done next weekend.
Awwww... not much funner than swapping 34 yr. old leaf packs. But that chore is done. She rides fine, a little stiffer but not horrible. Gained about 1-1/2" in body height, but it should correct that awful "death wobble" I had. The stock bushings I was able to pull out would make you shudder, totally ruined. I'm good to go now, re-torque in a few weeks and I can put this issue to bed.
