I was able to pick up a truckload of White Oak today already cut for free. I forgot to take a picture but I will be splitting it tomorrow so I will try to take a picture then. I get my new blower fans tomorrow as well. Send July out with getting prepared for Winter!
Well it has rained all day here so far and it does not look better later on. So There will be no splitting of the wood today
Hey Steve. The price was right! Looks like you guys in IN got some rain this morning. It is petering out as it comes toward MI and we would really like to see an inch or two of rain about now.
Man has it rained here. I need to cut grass and split wood. Neither one looks like it will happen. I would gladly send you some.
The only taste of White Oak i've ever got came from a whisky bottle. But it sure is a nice pile of Oakie there pal! Bark looks the same to me as Red Oak, am i right?
Bark does not look right for white oak, red or pin would seem more correct. It'll warm your tail though.
I was not sure. The guy that cut it told me it was a white oak. I was just happy to get some oak to replace what I will burn this winter. Thank you for clarifying.
That smooth bark looks like red oak. Great score! You'll know when you split it, it'll smell like sour gym socks...
Nice to meet you Steve Burns Wood , enjoy the Oak. It's gonna be a few years before you can burn it, do you have any other wood stacked already?
White oak? Red oak? You people don’t know what you’re talking about!!! Looks like a pile of useless pine to me (Pinus Uselessata is the Latin name).... that stuff will burn your house down. Put it out at the curb, PM me your address and I’ll be right over to haul that hazardous wood away.... Okay, that didn’t work? Not convinced? Nice score. Get it split and stacked!!!
That surely is some great oak Steve, but not white. Still super great wood and I'll take all the red you want to give.
1 more for doesn't look like white oak, at least not like the ones here. In some areas/on some lists red and white get equal BTU ratings and in other areas/lists white oak gets a small nod. Either way or whatever it looks like a nice dead of Winter hardwood to have getting ready for future heating. Too humid for me to be processing firewood. I tried. So I'm out ripping up more lawn instead taking breaks every 15 minutes. LOL. And it's quackgrass and some weed with dammdelion-type roots that go to China "lawn"with the requisite glacial till rocks, stones and sand .
