Is it rusted solid, or does the drive gear turn? Nice shop wall hanger, if nothing less. Model Profile: C-51
Neat find. I wouldve grabbed it too not that i could get it working. Always cool to see what chain saws of yesteryear looked like. Have you researched it at all Casper to see a year of mfr.?
IF you get it running make sure you have ear protection. That muffler is just a thing to keep people from sticking their fingers into the piston.
Those early Homies were legendary saws...... Cool find, keep us posted if you get it to fire up. And I agree with farmer steve in regards to the muffler......it's an ear-ringer.
How much worse than the blue s we ries XL12? We had one of those growing up to clear fence lines. I despised the thumb pump oiler, especially after I used my buddy's Dad's Stihl. I want to share the pain with my boy's.
Those little stack mufflers are extremely loud, but they also up the performance compared to the quieter square box inside baffle ones also available around the same time. McCulloch had a very similar one that was available for a bunch of their medium to larger models. Instead of horizontal slots,it was a series of small D shaped holes, other than appearance it accomplished the same thing.I have 3-4 installed on some of my saws,at least 2 spares in my parts stash.
Pour a little fuel mix into the carb while holding it wide open throttle. Pull it over and it should try and start to run. That will tell you if compression is good and if you have spark. Probably will have points and could need cleaning and you will need to replace crank seals and fuel lines and rebuild the carb. It is also a reed valve. Pull the muffler and make sure no critters have been building anything in there. Cool saw. I think it would be a fun project.
