    Hello Hoarders,
While out goofing around my woodlot today, my wife said, "look what I just found over by that big tree." All I've done is use a brass brush to remove the dirt. The lighter is for a point of reference as to the size. So I assume it's an axe head, but other than that I'm lost.

Someone really used it like a wedge. I have a few like that where the handle goes through and split the walls out.

You can put a wire wheel to it and it will clean up nicely.

Leadfarmer might know something. Not sure how often he swings by the club though.

Soak it in white vinegar for a few hours if you are looking for a manufacturers mark
It'll take it to bare metal.

From the pic it looks like an old chopping axe someone was using as a splitting axe/wedge. Not surprising the handle end is all peened from being used as a wedge. Soft iron.
I don't know enough about good axe heads to know if it's worth fitting with a nice long handle.

Funny. Just like me, it sounds like you have an old ax to grind as well.
