Back on Labour Day I made the trip to the Hillsville Flea market. If you have not heard about the Labour Day Flea Market in Hillsville, Va; it is the largest outdoor flea market on the east coast and maybe the USA; it is held for four days during the USA Labour Day holiday. There were a few people at the market this year; an estimate was that the combined participation would be around 500,000 visitors. This just shows a few of the people on the street, the crowd stretches down and up the hill not to mention the street behind me and there are three fields of vendors as well as the street vendors. I was hoping to find some chain saw vendors where I could purchase a new bar for The Beast and chains for both The Beast and the Echo. I did see a few saws but no chainsaws accessories. I did see Hank there selling propane and propane accessories. While looking around the market I did come across a rather interesting log splitter. Mmm, no safety guard on the drive belt, OSHA would not be pleased. That appears to be the original engine on the ground beside the splitter. He had reduced the price but I decided to pass on it.
Attendance must be down..... In prior years, a million people in 4 days was the norm... I don't go anymore because like XXL said, too many people. I'm 30 minutes from there Kim- no PM?
She prolly figured you'd try n get her to chop some wood for ya. Kims Kustom Wood Splitten service LLC.
Did you buy the "motorcycle" next to it? That little white 2 door coupe in front of the splitter looks interesting
That's how the empty wallet/pocketbook starts; they reel you in with an interesting woodsplitter then keep you paying with a coup and motorcycle. Me, I got first dibs on that red flannel shirt hanging off the clothes rack in the back. I always though red flannel looked good in the woods, I am just waiting for it to come back in style. In fact I have been waiting quite awhile now...have yet to see it on Paris Fashion Models though for some reason?
There were a lot of neat stuff there and a lot of junk as well. Fun to go and just wander around and see what shows up. I saw two eagles made with tableware; mostly butter knives.
People really are creative! I'll be honest with you, my wife Katie wanted to do a little side business where she took cheap or free furniture, fixed it up in creative ways and resold it. We know some antique places around here that take consignments. I was a bit unsure about the whole thing, but her first project sold before she even unloaded it. A woman was shopping the store, saw it and said, "I'll buy that." It sold so quick the woman who had the store said she would not even charge her commission.
I'd love to have that splitter! Could you imagine driving that in a parade, having someome man the helm as you walked along splitting and pitching apple and oak splits instead of candy to the kids on the curb? Awesome....
It is a very interesting splitter. I doubt it was used much because the wedge would bend very easily. It looks they used black iron fittings on the hydraulics.
