So my little hardware store hatchet decided it wanted to retire the other day leaving me with no choice but to purchase a new one. Walmart has an Ozark Trail camp axe that's got a head and upper handle identical to the Fiskars hatchets. I was going to buy that one... however.... I took a detour through garden center and discovered they had the 14 inch Fiskars hatchet in stock. Got it for right under 22 dollars as Walmart dot com had it cheaper. Price match. Now to the good stuff. I knicked my leg right above my knee pretty damm good with it. It never pierced my khakis but it gouged me pretty good. Pants are soaked pretty good where it hit me and I went through a good bit of paper towels before I bandaged it up. It doesn't look like much but it was pretty deep. Bottom tip of the blade got me. Please use caution with these. It will be a daily driver for me, but I'm used to a run of the mill hatchet from Harbor Freight...not very sharp. This hatchet, however, will all but give you a clean shave. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
What's with these people cutting themselves with hatchets these days!!?? dotman17 ! Seriously, sorry to hear it, and thanks for reminding us to be careful. And enjoy that hatchet, I want one, but cannot justify adding that to my Fiskars collection - yet.
Have one myself for kindling duty at camp. Almost scared to use it! Doubt I'd make it to town fast enough if I really goofed up!
The 1st time in 20years woodchoppin i hurt myself with an axe, also fiskars, sharp as hell! But to be honestwith you, i was a little sloopy but you can be sure i learned my lesson. By the way nice wee hatchet you got yourself there!
Hatchets scare me to death. I won't use one without being on my knees. The consequences are just too great. Glad you only knicked yourself. Could have been much worse. Thanks for posting this as a reminder to all of us! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
