Found two Eastern cedar logs washed up in a man's pasture from a creek, by the road. He didn't want them. Figured I'd get some practice. This is what I got from the larger of the two logs. A 8"x3.5" and 8"x 2.5". I used the MS180 and a 15$ China mill. I was willing to risk burning the 180 up. I didn't want to make any major first time screwups with the 400. Turned out fair. Will make a bench or something.
Oh, the bracket for milling clamped on the bar with Allen head set screws, and you have to screw a 2x4 or 2x6 to the log. The bracket slides on the 2x4 as you push it along. It was easier to let the chainsaw Rev a little high and ease through, rather than push it and bog it.
Proceed with caution. Milling is very addictive. Getting slabs on a flat surface to dry is key as well.
Not bad for first time and a 180. Worst case scenario is it smelled great. Nice find on the logs too. Never have tried CSM before. I have a bizarre shaped sassafras log at buzz-saw's that maybe a candidate.
