Well, I just brought my Firewood Hoarding to a whole new level! I wanted to create a "log" of my stacks so a few years down the road I know what was cut and stacked when, and where it came from, type of wood... I have so many stacks I started getting confused (no, it doesn't take much at all!) as to which was older... So anyway, while creating the log I thought why not put the dimensions of the stacks and racks into it, and let it calculate the cordage. Thought you guys might appreciate it, and/or want to use it. I put some sample data in it so you can see how to fill it out. Just type in the stack name, notes, dates and the dimensions in inches, and then the % of the stack filled (column L). It will then calculate the storage space you have, and the storage space your using in cord. Note: you can convert the calcs to feet instead if you wish, just take out the divide by 12's in the cubic feet column (column I). Enjoy!
I just had a V8 moment.... Here I've been scrounging in the backyard. Taking trees down for free. Picking up stuff on the side of the road... I NEVER would have even thought about burning my neighbors house!!!!
Oh yeah baby!! The cedar siding is among some of the best stuff out there!! There has been a cedar siding theif around my neighborhood for years, no idea who that might be!!!
Wow that would literally make me lose my mind! And what are these pictures of Goats Dave is talking about.
Dave's been spending too much time BEHIND the wood pile apparently!! Does this sound familiar? http://www.goats4h.com/callmama.au
The people on this website..... "That's a great idea"! Everyone else in this world..... "You've lost your mind".
Nice spreadsheet Can you add / get the total BTU to certain wood types per stack. Not sure how to lnk a word like red oak to a btu/ cord number Like rack 1 = 23,500,000 (oak) btu x M8 = btu in rack 1
Easy, and pretty cool idea. I have no interest in BTU's, but you could do it very easily. Simply add another tab/sheet to the spreadsheet with 2 columns, column A = wood ID, and column B = BTU's per cord of that wood I'd. It would look like: Oak 20,000 Pine. 12,000 Black Locust. 24,000 ...... Then, change the wood I'd column in the main sheet to be a Drop down list (where you choose either Oak, Pine or Black Locust...), and add another column to the main sheet with the BTU calculation in it: wood I'd from sheet2 column B x cords in use (column M). Done. The one issue with this is, you could not mix wood types in a stack.
The "data entry" is about 10 seconds. For a new stack, you would simply type: "New Stack Oak Downed tree in front yard Date 96 48 18 100%" Really not much to type/enter.....
Sorry, I just don't see a kodak moment in those fields I don't have Excel or Numbers to justify owning, just a handful of cameras. But if it floats your boat, fair winds and all that ......
