Oak, beech and black birch, all high BTU stuff, logs are 8-20' long. Most of the oak has been dead standing for 3-10 years so it's actually pretty dry already. If anyone in Central PA is interested in some of this, just let me know. I'm happy to share as this is way more than I could deal with by myself. Plenty more trees left to harvest this Spring. PM me if you are interested.
Nice. My eyes go to the grapple on the tractor. Mine finally got delivered on Friday and after done with work today I loaded it in the truck and got it home and unloaded. Still wrapped in plastic and hope to start adding the third function valve to the tractor first thing in the morning. Been a busy day and I am wooped so calling out for anymore work tonight. Great looking pile!!
Land Pride SGC 1072 TBH, so far it's only a little more useful for what I do (cleaning up debris and moving logs) than my old trusty pallet forks and it's fussier to get on and off. I'm sure I will come to appreciate it more as I get to spend more time operating it.
Keep us posted. I actually have a set of forks with a grapple on them but a dedicated grapple seemed like it might be more versatile. Problem with my fork grapple is that when I go into a pile of logs I end up with to many at once then it’s a pain trying to get some of them off without loosing all of them.
That's a good point. I haven't taken logs off a stack with the grapple yet, seems like that would be easier than forks.
Ill say its growing. Some primo stuff there. I think the 661 had something to do with this. Wish i lived closer Mike.
WTH are you going to cut with an 090? Redwoods on your property? Scotty Overkill may have one...or three!!!
That is a nice pile, congrats. Crazy idea, you could always cut it up, split it, stack it and call it firewood
Today was my last day of staycation. I got most of what I wanted to clear our from about 1/3 of our property and wound up with quite a good sized firewood log pile and a couple of nice logs to mill for lumber. Here's the last tree from today, a really nice red oak that died this summer. The trunk was gun barrel straight up to the crotch at 47'. I got tow dandy mill logs, 17' x 25" and 12.5' x 22", and the rest will be plenty of firewood. The rot at the base only went up about 2' so that was a pleasant surprise, too when I trimmed that off. MS661 w/ 36" bar was perfect for this tree. The two logs in the front of the second picture are the ones from this tree.
