When I was a boy, my older brother and I had the chore of doing firewood every year. My father burned about 8 full cords per winter. Lots and lots of cutting, splitting and stacking. My father did the cutting, and we typically were assigned the rest. I think back to those times and smile. It was something we did together that no one else can fully understand. Today, I'd say 90% of the time, I'm by myself doing firewood. Every once in awhile though, I get help from the family. I hope someday my kids look back on these times with a reflective heart.
