Hey everyone! Just scored a trailer load of standing dead from a buddy of mine. The haul contained mostly mulberry and Siberian elm. There was one large log in with the rest that I am having trouble IDing. I live in southeastern South Dakota. Could this be red elm? I think I am within the specie's range where I live but I don't think I've ever come across it before. Any help would be appreciated.

After looking at some pictures of silver maple it does seem that that's what I have here. We have so few maples that grow naturally where I live I don't run across them too often. Thanks for all the responses!

Silver maple is used a lot in landscaping outside its native area. Planted landscape stock seeds get transplanted in the wild by birds and small critters.

Yup. Ive been processing a lot of red lately and the color of his split reminded me of it. I score very little silver though.
