Replenished the firepit stack this weekend. Last summer was dry for us, and we lost about 35 small hemlocks. Figure about a quarter cord, which should do us into fall. The trees were in a dense grove of hemlocks and cedars, and grew from seed. There were way too many so it was good to thin them out. I guess last summer was Mother Nature's way of taking care of her forests. In the firepit is what is left from the branches. Should make for some good S'Mor-in this evening. Later this afternoon we may start the process of reloading the wood shed from our staging stacks, provided the rain holds off.
Did some one say S'more's? yummy! I have wiskers all around my "pie hole" and regular sumore's (with graham crackers) can be very traumatic for me. One evening I came up with this It's a flour tortilla, cooked on the fire while the chocolate melts, marshmellow cooked on a stick normally. It's a lot bigger and kinda fun & a good bit friendlyer to facial hair. I had posted these here before, I think prior to you joining.
Thanks. Pretty simple to make, but the end supports on mine are started to rot, so I need to find a cedar log and do some refurbishing. One set I made had three end supports with 2 benches all connected. My wife called it a sectional. Ha
Thanks. I did. Dug a hole about 2' deep and 3' in diameter and made a circular form using stiff cardboard. Form was about 6" thick. Used wood stakes to support the inner wall of the form. Put some rebar in the form. Filled form with concrete. After the concrete cured, I mortared together pieces of slate rock on top of the form. Maybe 2' high or so. The only regret I have is not leaving some air vents near the base of the slate wall. That would have made for a better pit. Aside from that, it has given us a lotta nice toasty fires over the years.
