Purchased this old Shindaiwa 500 years ago. The previous owner had rigged up a repair to the rear handle. It had always been a good runner so it gets some use here cutting scraps and kindling. The other day I couldn’t get it to start. It would fire once with a shot of carb cleaner but then nothing after. 1. Checked spark and compression and both looked good. I installed a new spark plug anyway. 2. Pulled the carb and it looked fine after I pulled the covers but still no luck after reinstalling it. 3. Replaced the carb and no luck. 4. Just out of curiosity I checked the muffler screen and it was clear. 5. Checked the fuel line in the tank and it had turned to mush. The end of it had closed completely which was a surprise as I had run it fairly recently with no issues. Replaced the fuel line and filter, fueled it up and no fire on cold startup with fast idle and choke closed. 6. Zip tied the throttle to wot. 10 cranks with the ignition off One crank with wot and ignition on and it fired up and runs great. I should have checked the fuel line first.
