Just wondering as I don't cut every day all day like a commercial tree service so what I have works for me, but.... as is everything it seems. My files are not manufactured in North America and for the sharpening I do they seem to work. However I am told the new files are only case hardened instead of through hardened. Saw sharpeners, machinists and diy'ers do you notice a difference or not. What advantage did the old files have. Do you have a source for good quality files that are high carbon steel through hardened? Wish I had bought that pail full of old black diamond and nicholson files I saw a few years back.

Look at Save Edge, they will also re-sharpen your old files.

Case hardening can be made harder than through hardening as no tempering is used. But remember hard is brittle and brittle teeth chip easier.
