Greetings everyone, We bought a house last fall and went from 10 yrs of apartment living (burning oil in an ancient steam boiler system)to moving back to the "woods" and burning wood once again. Fortunately this old "mule" came with the house.

Thanks Mitch, I never understood my fathers "firewood obsession" when I was younger and now realize all the complaining I did when I was younger and helping him haul wood was just training for later in life. The obsession is real.

With "sick" Ash around the property like this it shouldn't take long to add to next years pile.

    Welcome to the forum Rook.

That ash doesn't look too sick but probably soon will be. Is this what you plan on burning this winter? What do you have for a stove? Have you heard of the 3 year plan?

Check this out: Primer on Woodburning by Backwoods Savage | Firewood Hoarders Club Notice you can download it as a .pdf file or click on the "view it here" link. Hope it helps.

Welcome Loon Jr.,hauling trees out without limbing them. Glad you found the site, watch out for a guy named Backwoods Savage, he'll have you on a 2 year, 3 year and after that a 6 year wood inventory plan.

What type of tree are you dragging and what type of mule are you dragging it with, anyway you look at it, it's "GOODER". papadave

I was hesitant at first to cut it it, then upon further inspection the entire middle area between all the tree bases was rotted, along with carpenter ants and possibly EAB. It seemed to have several dead branches and not many leaves. This will be emergency backup. I should have enough 1 year seasoned for the winter. Moving in late last fall put me behind the 8ball, but I'm making due. I have a basement stove, which is a Tucker Allagash. The 3 year plan is definitely my goal.

I'm glad to be aboard. I'm dragging ash mostly with a 1970 Ford 3400 (love this freaking tractor) the property has some established paths which make the dragging easier. Much different technique than what I'm used to which is using a pickup truck and processing the tree where it falls. The neighbors probably think I'm crazy driving my tractor through the woods. I really want to be 4-5 years ahead ideally.
