I'm clearing some of my property and thinning some young eastern red cedar and black locust. normally I would burn that kind of small stuff, but that just seems wrong!

How long should I cut the posts and what would be a fair asking price? I'm not sure how many of each but my first guess would be 100 or so.

Can’t help on the pricing but it will depend on the diameter of the post. I always strive for 7 ft minimum that puts 3 ft in the ground. I am talking line posts for fence, now if it’s poles for barn or shed building I’d say as long as possible

Good point! Most are too small in diameter for building but just right for fence work.

I am seeing around $5 to $10 a post in my area.

Thanks! I think you are close enough to me that you pricing info would work here. I haven't found any listed here yet.

Most locust posts in our area are cut 6’ long & sell in the $5.00 - $6.00 range.

If there are any grape or apple farms near you they might want longer poles. They might want all you can supply as well. Worth calling around to see what you can get for them.
