About 3 months ago my neighbor dropped a tree and left the rounds near my front walkway for me. About 15 rounds the biggest about 16 inches. Well when I was splitting a nice oak score 2 days ago I decided to bring the rounds over and split them too. To my horror they were sweet gum! Nooooo thanks. Today I put them out by the road. Just saw a guy loading them into his truck. Poor guy....

I've got a splitter. 27 ton DHT. It still sucks. I wouldn't even call it a splitting.

Yup. It's the worst. I suppose if it's all you have then make due. However if you don't need it.... skip it.

I just noodle any wood that is hard to split and burn it all. I just finished up a elm. Lots of noodles.
It also gives me an excuse to run a saw and when you have a lot of saws then any excuse will do.

Oh, so you're girls! I didn't know! LOL.

    JUST KIDDING.

Seriously, though. Is there anything else? Or just that it's a pain to split?

it is a pain to split. It doesn't actually split, it tears. It also throws a lot of sparks. But you know what? I hand split mine a couple years ago and it kept me warm this winter. My wife didn't complain about my shoulder muscles then nor the warmth now. Sparks don't matter in an enclosed stove. And the torn up bits and pieces that stay attached to the log make it self-kindling.
