My 3 point build is coming along. Got some issues to fix and some details to finish. Need a couple more sets of hoses and waiting for my pilot-check valves to arrive.

This 'attachment' is for testing linkage movement and will also be used to drag the front half of an MD home about 3 miles. The wide front on the MD will be used to repair/overhaul the front end on this M next winter. I will bolt a pintle on the cross bar of this frame and then bolt a lunette ring weldment onto the bell housing bolts of the MD. The 3 point will pick up the MD and drag it like a trailer. After I am done with it I might use the attachment frame to make a small ripper shank.

Also installed the new combined manifold. The old one was getting pretty sketchy. Tractor runs much better now.

Oh, it has dual direction filtered hydraulics too. I shot a video while it was running to get 65 years of crap cleaned out of the belly pump...

Future plans may include live hydraulics. I am leaning towards chain driving a pump of a sprocket TIG welded to the crank pulley.

    Actually has 4 cylinders.

2- 4x12s for the lift cylinders. Total overkill for a normal tractor but the M belly pump only puts out 800-900psi at best. These will be pilot checked in the lift direction only.

1- 3x6. I think this is the third cylinder you are referring to. This functions as a hydraulic side link so I can adjust level on the fly. This will be pilot checked in the lift direction.

1- 1.5x12 used as a hydraulic top link so I can adjust tilt on the fly. I ended up cutting the factory swivel eye off the cylinder and welding in a 3" spacer tab so the base would not jamb against the tab. This will be pilot checked in both directions.

The steel, bolts, valve body, hose and fittings are all salvaged from work. I keep my eye out for odds and ends to rat hole for future use, all stuff that wold be thrown out any way. A couple extra non-stock fittings here, last few wraps on a spool of 1/2" hose there....pretty soon you are bringing a mountain of crap home in the back of your truck and your wife is freaking out...

All the C5 channel came from a maintenance outage last spring. I brought home 2500lbs of cut offs 5-6' long. Almost used up already. I built some stuff, gave about 1200 lbs to a older neighbor whose wooden four wheeler bridge burned up last year in that brush fire. Could just about drive a tank across the bridge he has now.

Here is one that shows the top link cylinder mods a bit better.

OK, didnt see the top link cylinder. When I made the hyd. top link for my 1750 I used a much bigger cyl. and made 2 turn buckle type deals rather than modify the hyd. cyl.

Yeah its been an interesting project. Prior to this I had never seen a 3 point in person, let alone operated one. I imagine it will evolve over time.

Got the single speed mile marker hooked up. Greased the gears, she in a little rough shape inside. Free spool clutch is jammed up. I will run it a bit under load then take it apart and see if I can get it to free up.

Spools a little slow but faster than on an automotive power steering pump. Can't wait to try it on some timber. Need to get the back stops welded on the bottom of the cross bar and the sheave welded on top.

I gotta ask, how much of the MD is left? Those were cool old tractors, start on gas, run on diesel. You had a spark ignition system, diesel injection, carburetor, and two valve trains all on one motor!

Whole front half from the clutch forward. All I need is the front running gear. If you know anyone interested, the left overs are free to a good home. I might even be willing to meet half way, as far south as the MN/IA line potentially. Hate to see it go to the scrap yard.

Sounds like a maintenence nightmare! But reliable starting in cold winter!

My understanding is they have a variable compression system too. The heads tend to crack too i hear from improper cool down. Guy I got the tractor frome says it ran before the transmission was taken off and the heads are in good shape. Got a long history with him and he has never screwed me, so I believe him.

Not too bad as most of them still run as long as the injection pumps function. Pumps, parts, and a lot of the knowledge to rebuild one is gone these days. Rebuilding the pump can cost more than the tractor the last time I heard about it.

Had lots of fun running an MD as a kid. It was running an old International 82 pull-behind combine. Was kinda a time machine duo. Run it all morning, the tractor was ready for a couple quarts of oil and a re-fuel by lunch. Fill 'er up and do it again for the afternoon.

I was wandering the same thing MM we had one when I was growing up pap didn't think it had enough power so we put a 4-53 Detroit in it. Pulled a 3 bottom plow faster than you cared to. The ta wouldn't hold up to the added power though so we eliminated it. Now I wish we would've left it stock and it would be part of my collection pretty sought-after tractor today.

Winched an 80' tamarack out of the woods and hauled it home like it was nothing. Need to get the pilot checks put on the top link. Getting a lot of bleed through on that spool.
