I figured it out this morning that I've been bow hunting for 52 years now but I have to say I've never seen the wood so green as it is this year. Very little color yet. Tons of mushrooms; more than I've ever seen. But of course, it has been super humid since early August and we've had more than our share of rain since then too. People are mowing grass like they would in May around here. Now I also see we are forecast to hit 76 degrees mid week coming up. Crazy.... Yes, I saw lots of deer this morning and enjoyed the show but did not see the one I want to shoot.
A "Global warming" cycle in place now next may be an " Ice age", Having fun hunting don't mean you have to shoot something When you pull the trigger, the hunt over & the work starts
How true this is, sometimes I wonder if it might be enjoyable to just take the camera out instead of a weapon.
The color isn't here yet either. And as for the mushrooms, I'm seeing huge clusters of sulphur shells EVERYWHERE. Usually see them in June!! Nutty weather for sure.
It's really started to change in our area, maybe we'll take a ride this week so we can see how much they have changed. I think they're calling for 77 on Friday.
color is here above 25oo feet starting with weaker tree in valley... I love fall.. try to get some pics but grey and rainy.. need a little sunlight to make it pop!
Color is coming in here. Took a ride to Freeport yesterday and noticed how much the colors had changed in just the last 5 days. Reds are coming in strong. Yellows, not yet.
Color is just starting here. Seems like it happened overnight. Any leaves dropping are still fully green.
Behind here too. Just now starting. Usually by sept 20 it has a good start and Oct 10 it peaks. I looked at my weather log and last year it started late Sept. Maybe we'll have a similar winter.
Here are some pictures to show the lack of color here. The second picture is a prime example because that area is usually mostly red at this time of the year because what you see in the distance is mostly soft maple. Although some soft maple has turned or is turning, most of it is green as grass here. I've never seen this happen before. The last picture does have a little color in it because of the sassafras which usually is much brighter than this year's crop. Also, today felt like summer at 78 degrees. It is getting humid now as there are some showers west of us. It is supposed to be warm through Friday.
I noticed on the way home this afternoon that the "colors" are brown and rust. Some yellows here and there but not many reds this year.
