Going to look at a Fahrenheit F-50 tomorrow, anything in particular to check I contacted him and it does have auto ignition so I assume it is one of the newer ones. His ad is as follows: Excellent condition. Buyer to remove.
Firing it up and see if everything works. Check for wear/tear on the burn pot assembly. Looks like you got two options on yours, air diffuser for stand alone and a hopper extension. Hope it works out for you.
Dang, Gonna need a step ladder to put pellets in that thing! How much will it hold with the extension??
Borrow Don's fancy $3000 electric mover thingy.....for that price, it should load those pellets into that hopper extension all by itself.
Well so much for a Craig's list find, Picture posted was something found on the internet and while Excellent condition is the opinion of the seller, In my opinion it would be poorly maintained and left to rust in a basement. Also the real deal breaker was the Fire Starter and Match for Auto Ignition ! Sort of a disappointment oh well.
Would be for me too unless a conversion kit was cheap and easy to be had. I'd hold out for a auto start unit too!!
Certainly $1,000. If I remove it. (After all this was a very expensive furnace is what he told me) It's the type of stairs where you go up 2 steps turn 90 degrees go up 5 steps turn Left and go up 3 more steps to end up in a kitchen and then down 3 steps to get outside, Perhaps I'm old and grumpy but he should pay me to get it out of the basement!!
It might be worth something to someone else. At least it wasn't a premium price. I would try to low ball it and it might be of good use for you after you clean it up. Or wait for a automatic one at a premium price.
The prices of used Pellet/Corn Furnaces in this area have dropped quite a bit as fuel oil, Propane have come down to an affordable level. Also the rising price of pellets have made the pellet burners less desirable. Around the 240 per ton mark at this moment for pellets so corn is looking very affordable at half that price although that might change by this fall. There was a couple of Magnum 6500/7500 Stoves available in this area for the 500 to 1,000 dollar price . Some of them in decent condition. I suspect that with a bit of patience that something with auto clean and auto ignition will crop up.
For $1,000 that's not a bad price. But auto ignite is a great feature. Did it have the diffuser and extended hopper? If so? You could have sold those for a few hundred and put that towards the auto ignite kit. There are 7 of us with the Fahrenheit on here. They are great furnaces. Good luck in your search (Don't settle for a Magnum furnace. You might as well buy that Fahrenheit before you buy one of those with very little features/options )
No to the hopper extender and Diffuser, It was sort of hacked in with 1 Flex Duct and a 3 Inch vent without a clean out T. I was using the Magnum's as a reference as to the value of what one of these would be worth in my area. This one I would put in the $500 dollar range, What I would get in this case is the motors that have never been cleaned, the rest is not in very useable shape.
I got lucky. I paid $1000 for mine with the extended hopper and some venting, and the seller hauled it out of his basement and even delivered it to my house. Granted, he only lived 4 miles down the road and he knew my neighbor, but.... I've been seeing a lot more F50's popping up for sale lately, but they're all in the $2500 range. I suspect lower conventional heating fuel prices aren't helping. If heating oil went below $2/gallon I'd probably cut down on my annual pellet consumption by a ton or so.
Arti, is this what your looking for? It looks like the pic but no name on the add and maybe a bit pricey at $1400 http://appleton.craigslist.org/for/4985955649.html
That is one that I am looking at. I contacted him and it is auto ignition. Had an appointment with him last Sunday, I offered to disconnect it, repair the pipe connections and drag it up the steps as part of the deal and then He started yanking my chain, It's 2.5 hours drive one way and suddenly he had other plans until real late in the afternoon, told him that would be to late, he texted back said well I sent you the wrong time we could do it earlier. BTW He set all the appointments !! I'm a heating contractor and trying to set myself up for retirement, I wonder how many potential buyers he has that are capable of removing it without damaging his house and repairing the holes in the heat runs? I'm crowding 70 years old and not going to chase around in the middle of the nite unless it involves beer and other fun things. Any way many thanks for sending me the message that it was available, I think I'll wait until he is ready to sell it.
Thank's Dexter I hope it works out also however at this point I don't trust him very much, a man is only worth his word.
