I've gotta replace the guts in an older Eljer toilet tank. I have the stamped numbers from inside the lid, and part numbers from the flapper. But I can't find out what they relate to concerning new parts. It's probably close to 20 years old, just a guess. Any ideas on what I should look for to pick up new parts? Thanks, JB
Get the new style with dual flush while you are at it. Universal ones are great. The dual flush allows less water for #1, but full flush for #2. Win win.
OK, should I strip everything out and just head to Lowes or HD and pick up compatible parts? I'm good with that, both stores are about 30 min. drive, either E or W.
We put a $99 Aqua Source toilet in our colorado home before moving, it worked GREAT, flushed better than the ancient 3.5 gal toilet, and less water into the septic tank. Just a thought
A lot of those older toilets use way too much water and still don't flush the bowl clean. Parts are pretty cheap though.
The flapper/flush valve won't fit many old toilets with the universal kits - just a heads up. Fill valves are pretty straight forward changeouts
as a landlord.. I get champion 4.. will take just about anything without clogs... 205 at HD.. it's EFFICIENCY rated
I use the same, need to add the Fluid Master/Amercan Standard Performax fill valve with the adjustable refill to fill the bowl to the proper level. The low refill allows the siphon to suck the bowl empty too fast. If you dont fill the bowl high enough, the siphon jet flushes the water down the bowl before the water can reach the back of the bowl at the rim. I know, this sounds crazy, but the water flows counter clockwise around the rim of the bowl and get to the siphon first. If the bowl empties out before the water reaches the back of the bowl, the bowl cant wash clean. When the bowl is filled properly, the siphon jet cant empty the bowl as fast. Sadly, Amercan Standard knows this but chooses to put a "cheaper" Fluid Master fill valve in at the factory. Even though they own Fluid Master now. That's where I'd probably bite the bullet and drop a new toilet in, unless you're looking to match the avocado fixtures The new one I dropped in the 1/2 bath remodel flushes like a boss, refills much fatser
