Coworker told me about a guy warming his car up in Michigan and getting ticketed!?!? How is the law worded? I can not imagine having to sit in my car to warm it up in winter. I would be up in arms and stalking the judge who upheld this and the cop who wrote the ticket and every legislator who passed this and making citizen arrest after arrest until they repeal this stupid. Or is there something out of context that I am missing and it is making me seem unhinged?

We first heard abut this at work this past winter and laughed, shook our heads, then laughed some more.

Next thing you know, there'll be a fine for leaving your windows open!!!

I detroit if you leave your car running and are not in it there is like a 90 % chance it will be stolen. This is why the law was created.
The insurance companies wont pay for the stolen vehicle if they can prove it was running unoccupied.

I understand the theory behind it. Just don't agree with it.

The remote start I have on the work truck has served the purpose quite well during the cold months we had. The entire vehicle stays locked but the engine is running. Even if you get inside the vehicle somehow, as soon as you try to shift it into gear (without the key in the ignition) the engine dies out.
Must've had detroit in mind!

There's an intersection near work that had a lot of accidents. The State came in and there was talk of changing it to a circle or maybe doing something else. In the end they made it a simple 4 way stop with some new lights. They actually did a good job without spending a ton of money, it was amazing!

We just got a 3+ million $ round-a-waste of tax money last fall. My mother in law swore she wouldn't use it and to this day has not. Sad part is that a 4 way traffic light could have fixed it for a boatload less money and it is built right at the cusp of being too small for semi's to get around it. It is on the intersection of US highways 52, 281 and 200. One of the busiest intersections of the state! :picard:

Roundabouts are supposed to save fuel and pollution from idling vehicles at a light.
They actually work if well designed until traffic flow is heavy enough they start backing up and then you have idling traffic again, requiring expensive and expansive flyovers.

But the law is for vehicles that don't have remote start and the doors are not locked.

Yeah, so let's not lay the blame where it belongs...on the backs of the criminal POS's that would steal your car. Let's discourage them by inconveniencing our law abiding citizens! Bet the folks who wrote that law have nice heated garages?

"OK you guys....There's a lot of crime going on going out there.....I want you all to start checking the running cars for occupants and write up the violators!"

Seems kinda menial with all the other stuff down there?
