Someone has one for sale here a couple hrs away and it caught my eye. Mid-$200's for a 70cc saw with a decent rep (from what I have found so far) seems too good to pass up. Anybody have some first hand experience? Easy performance improvements? Also found a ms360 for around the same price a bit closer.
Ive never had an echo before, can't comment on that, but if it's a saw from this site I'm sure the fellas will chime in.
We think alike The Echo 670 is a great saw and the MS 360 is one of Stihls greatest (IMO). The Echo is 66.7 cc and the Stihl is 61.5 cc. They are both great deals for around the $200 mark. At those prices the Stihl will be gone faster than the Echo. So your gonna have to act fast! A decent shape 036/360 will still sell for $350 (+ or - $100 depending on overall condition) the Echo is probably around $275-$325. But I have only seen a few of them for sale locally, so my pricing may be off.
Just emailed on the 360. After looking closer at pics, it's not exactly mint looking. If he gets back soon I might go for a drive. There's also an 039 about 3 hrs away for $225 with new chain. If it and the 670 were closer, my collection would likely be bigger by now. Might be in the area of the 670 next weekend though, pics of it look pretty good so its got my interest. This chainsaw affliction thing is a nasty one...
I have a 6700 older 670. The 670 will feel like a husky 365 weight wise in hands and little less power then 365 speical. JMO. 66.7cc I call 67cc. not 70 at all. The 360, I had a 036 pro. Lighter weight and better handling with great power in the cut. Me I would side with 360, 61.5cc I call 62cc.
IMO 360 over 039. Screw mint looking for a saw you are actually going to use. It might be 100% mechanical ready to go and thats all that matters IMO.
X2.. The 360/036 is a much better saw. It is smaller in displacement (on a couple cc's) but will still outrun and outlive an 039/390. Nothing wrong with a 390. But if you had the option to buy Pro over Homeowner and get a newer saw? Then why not? The 039 is older than 360. If there is an 0 in the front, they are an older model. With an "0" in the back, they are newer. It's been about 15 years now, since the "0" swap? IIRC. I forget the exact year it occurred?
Now comparing 6700 670 to 039. Me I would take the pro built style of the echo 670 over the 039. Again JMO. 360 670 039
All things equal a stihl will always sell for more if you want to eventually sell one saw. (Compared to an echo)
Dont get me wrong I have owned many stihls and liked the good ones. Not so much on the homeowner ones though. 200T, 026 pro, 2x031, 036 pro, 361, 2x066, 660, 4x084. Then 2x025 250 290 029 off the top of my head. Then many others I work on and get to test out 031 039 310 390 044 440 046 etc.
Not me I have a hard time remembering what I did yesterday It was just some useless info I think I remembered
Well, things didn't work out to be in the area of the 670 this weekend, but am going to check out the 360 in a couple hours. Hopefully that will work out. Then hopefully things go better next weekend and I can get this thread back on it's original topic.
Turned out to be a mixed bag day. I now have a ms360 to play with. Should be cleaned up, it's kind of dirty, and will be looking to get dogs for it (overlooked it didn't have any). But figured $250 for a ready to use 360 was too good to pass up, even though I was looking for a 20 incher and this was 18. Hoping to get to the woods with it tomorrow and try it out on some big windfall spruce I've been holding off on. Bad news is it looks like the 670 was sold. Darn. So this thread turned out kind of pointless. Maybe someone will bring it back with some 670 info.
