Have a Echo timberwolf that I have had for 3 years or so. I got about 4 cords of big diameter logs dropped off a couple years ago and ran that hard for a couple months and then occasional light use since then. Recently my new neighbor owns a tree service so he dropped off a bunch of big logs and filled my trailer up!! Worked on about 1/4 of it for 3 hours or so of cutting and then the next weekend ran for about 30 minutes and filled up gas tank and saw kept starting and then dying. I thought the mixed fuel was bad or maybe not the right ratio because it was the end of the can so got fresh fuel and fresh mix and had similar issues. Ran for 10 minutes or so then randomly died in the middle of the cut. Saw would start and then immediately die at idle. Any thoughts on where to start? Filter clean, saw recently cleaned and sharpened and new fuel...that is about my extend of mechanical ability. Help welcome!
My Stihl 310 would run for 20 minutes and die while cutting, I took it over to two Stihl dealers and both said it was fine. The first dealer looked at it 3 or 4 times, it's fine, the second dealer looked at it once, it's fine. Each time I would bring it home and run it in a log and it would quit after 20 minutes, it pizzed me off so much I bought a new 311. After getting the 311 I bought a part saw with a newer carb in it, I put the newer carb in the 310 and it's still running fine.
Interesting. I called to see how much a new carb was and it was $137!! ha. 1/3 of the price of what i paid for the saw... Shop said i could take it off and they will run it though ultrasonic cleaner for me for a small fee. Might try that to start.
This is what I got going on, so can't afford a down saw. Never thought i needed two, but ........ probably should The dog is Bailey, she is my wood cutting buddy. +
hardly ever see a carb that needs to be replaced unless it’s been sitting in a cellar and got pitted. A good cleaning , ultrasonic is good, and a new kit, ($12ish),fixes most carb issues.
Took the whole thing and left it with them because still under 5 year warranty. Been 8 days..... said it was the intake bellows? Apparently separated from the plate or something so allowing too much air in the carb. Should be done by the weekend. Need another saw so I don’t have to be down for so long... question is 500i or 472. Want to give Stihl and gander. The echo is fine and the price point is great but the heart wants what it wants....
Yes, it’s good to have a small, medium, large saw and backups for each. One saw for each commonly used bar size is nice too, so you don’t have to waste time swapping bars. Just grab and go. Dull chain, no worries, you have backup saws to keep cutting.
