Lately I've been getting good scores down at the city recycle center. Black Locust, Red Oak, Hackberry, Red Elm and Sugar Maple. They just dump it off and pile the logs. Easy for me to drive up and help myself. IMG_20150928_142423.jpg IMG_20150928_142356.jpg IMG_20150928_142428.jpg

    Great sore/scores
Here, birch & spruce logs don't last long if stacked anywhere close to easy access & rarely free.

    Location, location, location :)
The % of wood burners in my area is probably pretty high,
    easy wood goes fast.

Drooling over the locust in the pic!

My dump won't let you take anything. They sell the wood to a place that makes mulch. Bah humbug

Usually there's some competition for this stuff and a couple guys that work there get first dibs but lately it seems I've been the only one cutting. A few years ago I bucked up a good 4 cords of Locust.

Good for you. I'm trying to get a hook up like that soon. I just started this new job so I have to make some friends that work for the town. Hopefully this week. Gotta get a envelope ready for the hook up...

That is easy pickens and good stuff too. My BL stash is getting lower do to last winters temps but I finally have plenty of mixed 3 year oak for this winter. Will be interesting to compare burn.

Good for you Todd. Looks like your trees aren't any further along than ours. Some areas have plenty of leaf drop already but most is still green but we do notice the difference daily now. We have a couple patches of sassafras that was green last week and all red now. Took about 2 whole days to turn.

cut out the middle man and put a sign at your driveway that you will take firewood.
might save you lifting and hauling it :binoculars:

Nice snags! We have a city waste site as well but you have to be quick! And most of the tree services that use it, stack with their booms so the little good wood they drop ends up 15-20 ft in the air.:picard:Most of them sell the hardwood logs so not much gets left behind.
