Got the earth magnets (apex magnet)
    Link
got one 1-1/2 diameter & two 1" diameter.
the 1-1/2 " worked the best, stronger attachment to the bar.
the 1" work ok but they came off much easier than the 1-1/2 " one.
    Strong little magnets !!!
Be careful with them, easy to pinch a finger & get a blood blister ;)

Epoxied it to a piece of fishing pole. (cut off a 1/2 - 20, 3" bolt)
Left a nub stick thru that fits in the hole in the bar. (can't slide)
lashed, epoxied, added some flo-pink duct tape.
    I'll test it soon
    Nice features:
I can switch sides of the bar easy &
    fast on & off.

NICE JOB! I love it when somebody makes a gadget to help get the job done rather than buy one.

Somebody needs to come up with way to mount a laser pointerto saw handle where dot can be adjusted to mark length of cut. Lasers are cheap and would not be anything to get in way of cut.

My theory on making each piece of firewood perfect is similar to my thoughts on making each bale of hay perfect - the residue looks the same when I have to haul it off.

Lasers aren't friends with dust, dirt, and vibration. But I still like the idea.

I'm not too particular about what my wood looks like, but it does make it easier to stack and fill the stove up completely when they are all uniform.

They work on firearms which cause exposure to dust , dirt and vibration. I have also seen them on electric wood cutting saws. I will bet someone on here could come up with way to make it work.

I guess if they can work on a chop saw or circular saw there's no reason they couldn't work on a chainsaw. I guess I'm just a simple man.

Two lasers set to hit the log 17" apart ( or what ever length)
One at a spot just off the edge of the bar/chain, x distance & the other aligned to mark the desired length.
Adjustable to get it "sighted in" for your saw , a L.E.D light starts
blinking, then goes steady green when you're right on.
Have them move up & down to show a line (not just a dot)
Gonna have to work on this one. :)

An "Auto tune" saw with a "laser sight" :)

another light telling you your saw is at 90° & straight >>:)<< ?

Dont let the big saw companies get a hold of this thread. Every "auto tune" saw will have a $300 add on

HDRock gave me the idea of the magnet.
He has one with a spring, whip antenna

BillinTX has some he made one with a spring too.

BeetleKill is in the process of making one using
one of those spring door stops gizmos. Another good idea.

1-3/4" od with the 1/4 x 20 female. Did it online, so hope they show up as expected.
Now, here's what I really expect out of them- max. 50lb. pull off. They may rate 125 lbs., but they don't qualify the thickness of the backer steel.
Mag drills don't hold well on 1/4" plate, I suspect this magnet won't hold to spec. on a chain bar. I'm good with that.
    I'll adjust.

I was going to order a couple of them, let me know what you think.

I can't pull mine straight off without serious effort,
I pull the rod at an angle, break the flat strong hold & then pull it off hard & quick.
I put it on at 90°, then let it stand up & then put the stud in the hole in the bar.

They are a lot stronger than I expected.
