I'm installing a DuraVent brand chimney and I have to clear a 12" eve ..from the research I've been doing I need the extended wall bracket . I was wondering if anyone's used this and how it worked out ? I can't find anything about it on the web Thanks Ernie
Ernie, I didn’t use that bracket but used a 45 degree elbow to offset the pipe on my shop. Edit… after looking at the picture I should have used it first from my through the wall Pipe at bottom and then straight shot up. I’ll have to try that when I clean it next time. I was trying to avoid using any fitting or going through the eve ..I was hoping if this brackets worth the price it would be a straight shot up past the eve . Ernie
I'd also lean toward using a 22* or 45* fitting(s) over the extended bracket...the bracket means you have a longer run of horizontal pipe through the wall and that can cause draft issues and smoke rollout when loading...unless maybe you have a very tall chimney that will overcome the horizontal...but its always best to have as little flat runs as possible. Wait, now that I think about it, I don't think you can do what you want, you would have to have an extended support bracket too, and I don't think they make those, do they? That extended bracket you found is for the pipe after/above the 45*, and before going above the roof line...
I believe this bracket would be the extended bracket to support the T instead of the traditional mounting bracket that's close to the wall . Does the 45 make it harder to run the brush up the chimney to clean it ? I was thinking if I used the extended bracket to clear the eve it just have to use a 2' piece of pipe to get me from the T to the adapter inside the wall . Would a 2' horizontal run be to much ? Thanks Ernie
You have to use a support bracket under the tee. A Sooteater will go right up through there with 45's no problem. As far as "too much" horizontal...depends on your chimney height, stove model, location, elevation, etc etc...it may be fine, or may not, hard to say for sure... more horizontal is never better though.
If I'm reading this correctly I don't need the support if I'm using this bracket . Here's a link with the info about it ..maybe I'm missing something here DuraVent 6DT-XWSx DuraTech Adjustable Extended Wall Support for 6 and 8-Inch Diameters Thanks Ernie
I'm sorry, you are correct...I've not seen that setup before. Doesn't look like overkill by any means...do you get much wind where you are? I personally would still use the standard bracket with a couple elbows...but that's just me and my 2 ¢.
I do have some pretty good wind storms from time to time but I plan on also using a bracket where it passes by the eve which would be about half way from the T to top of the chimney . Thanks for the info ! Ernie
I also vote for keeping the horizontal piece short and going up as far as possible close to the house. Use 2 45's to clear the eves. I did just this and sweeping is a non issue. I'll try and dig up a pic.
After looking at the wall kit I have it's actually a Selkirk/ SuperVent brand . I've been looking for the 45"s and I can't find any ...searched all over the web . Where can I find these ? Ernie
Selkirk/Supervent brand? They don't make 45's...they only have 15* and 30* kits...which 30* is what most people use anyways.
Yes... SuperVent Looks like they do make 45's but it says they are ONLY for use in Canada. Im not sure the 30's are going to work for me ? Ernie
Why would they not? That's what most people use...it just takes a little more run to accomplish the same "rise" (offset) Here is a chart to calculate how long of a section you need between the elbows https://hw.menardc.com/main/items/m...nedInstallationinstructionswarrantylowres.pdf
