Finished some more concrete yesterday. Poured the turnaround 2 weekends ago, and got around to the main drive yesterday. Poured a nice big approach and adjoining sidewalks to front and side door about a year after buying the house and completing the addition on the front. (2010) Hired out my pole barn floor and approach which is out of my league in 2016. It was 38 yards of concrete but I did all the site prep to save what I could. Next I poured some steps and a sidewalk at my barn in 2018. Concrete has gotten rather outragious in price just like a lot of other things! Only thing left to do is finish the drive at my pole barn.
Is it better to help prevent cracking to have a good base of a couple inches of crusher run and 3/4” stone under the concrete and then spread Master Cure on top for slow and harder curing of the concrete?
The drive was 22AA pounded over for the last 13 years, and I just took off enough to make room for the concrete. My approach and sidewalks poured in 2010 still haven’t cracked, so I think the drive should be just fine As far as a sealer product, I had the crew that did my pole barn use it on the floor inside and they went ahead and used it on the approach too. Guess I haven’t really felt one way or another on the approach, but really like the way my floor turned out inside. Really nice look and oil wipes right up off the floor with no staining. Very glad they used it!
Looks great! I'd love to get some poured in my garage addition but I'm scared to ask what it would cost.
Ended up being just shy of 4K, and that’s for every single thing I used material wise. Total was 18 yards of concrete and that was at my buddies cost. Still almost $160/yard, with both pours being on the weekend. My buddy that does it for a living said it would be a 10k driveway if I paid someone else to do everything. I have another friend who was recently quoted $5300 for a 20x20 area in a garage of his.
Thanks Wood trailer still gets fair amount of use even though I have the dump truck now. Sometimes hook it up to the dump and can haul 5 face cord if I need to.
I wish I could remember for sure what I paid for the readimix in 2016 when I had my barn floor and approach poured I was thinking the other day that I’m pretty sure I paid about the same then for 38 yards of concrete as I did for the 18 yards for this project, and I didn’t have my buddies discount then
I'd be afraid to see what blacktop would cost with oil as expensive, I think it looks beautiful and you have a much better product. Wanna come over and do mine next haha
Thanks I’d be curious on the blacktop too. Didn’t even consider cause I couldn’t do it myself, and therefore assumed it would be more expensive.I’ve been putting my own off for a couple years, so how does 2025 sound?
I know someone who has it. He has to flip the switch on when it just starts snowing and then the snow never sticks.
Am I the only one that's heard about the cement shortage? My inventory route at work has been redirected for months cause they can't get cement to finish a railroad crossing, yet a business a block away from the warehouse has a new 40x100ft pad poured a couple weeks now probably 6" or 8" thick Nice job on this !
Thank you, and actually yes, the redimix plant mentioned the shortage. When I first called to order, they mentioned the shortage and said that they weren’t running the plant on Saturday’s. Called my buddy who does it for a living and he called and arranged for the Saturday delivery. Guess it pays to know someone this time. Massive local highway project sure doesn’t seem impacted by the shortage for the last three years they’ve been working on it!
