FHC members are very generous when it comes to sharing and giving. This year, please take time to research where you donations are being used best for the intended needy party. I.E Salvation Army or Ronald MacDonald House were over 90% of every dollar donated goes to the needy. Some of the big national names have huge amounts of overhead, CEO salaries that exceed anything normal. Consider giving locally. IE your local food banks, your animal shelters, etc. use direct donations for the intended need. Be very cautious about phone calls asking for donations. If giving to the United Way, you can select where you want your donations to go. Enjoy your holidays and thank you for sharing what you can.
Good post, savemoney! I like to see where my donations are being used, as well. And Lord knows we have a lot of VERY generous folks here at FHC. Best family on the planet!
Right. I don't donate to the big name places or anything like that. We don't mind giving but we just want to know for certain where our money goes so we are a bit more direct rather than United way or things like that. Needless to say, most of our giving is done locally.
Very good post. We always look up the charity to see how responsible they are. We use web sites like this Charity Navigator - Your Guide To Intelligent Giving | Home
I grow too many vegetables in my front yard. All the excess goes to two of the local food banks. It's not a lot but it's just another way to help out those that need it. +1 with keep it local. Your local battered women shelter and aid can often use suitcases and old cellphones.
Good thread.....I just called last night for my nights to ring the bell, I love doing this every year and yes the Salvation Army is a good organization. Samaritans Purse and the shoe boxes is another one we love. The Joshua Fund is another that comes to mind.
