Well first post so here it goes... Apparently someone needed my Efco 165 worse than I did as its now missing from its normal resting place. So its off to the dealer who now also carries Dolmar saws. Tested out a 6100 and really enjoyed it. I've been wanting to step up a class or to size wise for some time. Just not sure it warrants the extra $??? This is strictly a firewood saw. Will run a 20 inch bar 90% of the time with the need for up to a 24-28 inch bar on occasion. This being said what are everyone's thoughts on these 2 saws. Thanks.

If you really do need to run a 28" bar on occasion, then the 7910... if you can make due with a 20" bar for most wood, the 6100 would be fine. It won't pull a 28" bar worth a crap, and definitey won't oil it either. I believe it's a K095 (small Husky) mount and I'm not sure you could even find a 28" bar for that mount, anyways. Dolmar recommends a max bar length of 20", BtW.

As has already been posted . . .

Dolmar 6100 has a small mount Husqvarna bar mounting pattern (Oregon K095)

Dolmar 7910 has a large mount Husqvarna bar mounting pattern (Oregon D009)

I have a Dolmar 7900. Though it will pull a 32" bar in most situations, 28" is considered the maximum length due to oiler limitations unless you are in green wood.

That's a $300 question right there. Lol. I agree with what's been said. If it will wear a 20" bar most of the time than a 6100 will be hard to beat. However a 7910 with a 24" bar is gonna bring a big Ole smile to your face everytime you run it.

Is this your only saw? If so I'd go with the 6100 for the weight alone. My 7900 wears a 20" most of the time, but it sure gulps the gas and can get heavy.

Is there a reason you're looking at the 6100 and 7190 but not the sizes in between? 7910 is overkill if it usually wears a 20", but right if it's usually wearing a 28".

A 6400 or 7310 might be best, really.

    Welcome to FHC.

All the info above is great stuff!

For 28" hands down the 7900/7910.

If 20" will meet your needs? Then 6100 will do just fine!

If you're gonna lug around a 64 or 73, you might as well have the 79. They all the same.
The only reason I don't have two 7900s is because the 6401 is too dang good to mess with.

Exactly how I see it... They are the same saw, other than the P&C.

OP was talking $$ differences. Functionally, I agree with you.

This will be my only saw for the time being. I am considering the 6100 because of the design and the filter setup. I liked the feel of the demo saw I ran. It had a 24 in bar and the power was spot on. The 6400 seems too heavy for a 60cc saw, and like the others have said 7910 is the same chassis. Just unsure about lugging around a 79cc firewood saw. My cutting buddy runs a 395xp with a 20 inch bar as his only saw. I know I'm not cutting as fast but feel just as productive at the end of the day because of less fuel stops. The power to run a longer bar than 24 inches is what is tempting me to step up. The need for a long bar should be minimal but the ability to take on bigger wood would be a bonus.

For the money the $300 difference is huge if you consider the alternitve. 2 saw plan is better especially if you ever cut bye yourself. You can almost buy a new ps421 and ps6100 for the price of the 7910. Then if you get pinched or what not you have a back up. Plus at 10 lbs it's so much easier on the back for limbing and etc. Then later on add the 7910 and you have a collection fit for a king. IMO!

I really like the 6100 and think you'd get a lot of saw for the $$. You might have to make two cuts on the occasional big trunks but occasionally wishing for a larger saw beats always regretting dragging around unnecessary bulk. I'd get the 6100 and buy a bigger bar and chain for your buddy's 395. :p

Is that what the price difference is on a 6100 vs a 7910, $300? I never priced a 7910. One of the local Stihl dealers also sells Dolmar, I was there last week getting some Stihl things, and he had a 6100 on the shelf, 1st one I've seen in person.

They look like a nice saw, heck of a lot cheaper price wise then the 362c,, Kind of wish they would have had them around a year-1/2 ago when I bought the 362c... I would like to have a 6100 someday I think...

for a 20'' bar the 6100 would be logical hands down but if you like to mess with more hp albeit more weight like i do, then get the 7910 and see if you can show your buddy and his 395xp a thing or two

    You're an optimist - the 7910 is 15cc less displacement than a 395xp.

With a 20" bar neither will break a sweat. My money is on the one with the better chain.

    Do t this k I would run more than a 20 on a 6100.

If that is only saw you buy and the price diff I would say smaller saw and cut from both sides.

If you have the cash get the bigger saw. You can then cut anything.

And I bet he is more productive with a bigger saw than you unless y'all but 10" wood all day.

as i see others have already pointed out, with a 20 inch bar the 395 doesnt outrun a 7910. Got get into the long bars to take advantage of that extra 15cc
