Does the 592xp make the 572 redundant?

All the initial reviews of the new 592 seem positive.

It only weighs 1.3 pounds more than the 572, for 22 more cc's.

The 592 can double as a milling saw for many.

Is there space left for the 572, or will the 592 become the default large Husky saw?

Imo there will always be a place for 70cc saws.
Best all around saw that I can’t get enough of.

Agreed. Will always be a need for a saw in that class. Not everyone needs 90+.

372 and 395 coexisted for years and both very popular.

My 661 and 084 are occasional to rarely used. 99% of the time I have a 70cc saw at the wood pile. 4 to choose from :dex:

    I’ve never run a 90cc saw.

With such a small weight difference, what makes you and The Wood Wolverine reach for the 70cc saws instead?

I can feel a significant difference between my 462 and 661. Bar length is a factor.
The balance of a 70cc with a 20” bar is perfect imo
If I can do the job with a 044, 272, 371, 462 the 661 stays inside. If the job will be easier with 90cc and a 28” bar that’s what I’m using.
If I had a 572 it would have a 20-24” bar and the 592 would have 28-32.” I’m not a bar swapper, so the diameter of the wood is the real determining factor. I wouldn’t buy a $1500 90cc saw to cut 16-22” wood.

Yup, bar size determines which saw to grab, A Husky 55 and a ported 026 up to about 14" a ported MS440 up to about 24" over that out comes the ported 395. When I had only one saw it was the 440.

Thanks. If you were only going to have one 70cc+ saw (blasphemy!) and cost weren't a deciding factor, would you go with something in the 70cc class, or the 90cc class?

As a related aside, I've found it noticeable how many guys bought a 500i as the ultimate end all be all chainsaw and then after a year or two ultimately ended up defaulting to something like a 462.

70cc is the best spent $ if I had to choose. It would be tough at my age to have to make firewood and fell trees with only a 90cc saw. Even a modern one.

MS361, 60 cc, ported is my absolute favorite single saw. It easily drives 24" bar and chain which is plenty for 90% of what I cut. It could easily drive a longer bar, but probably wouldn't oil it. That said the 592XP awesome on paper. I recently picked up an MS661CM just to keep bars and chains consistent.

Swing that extra 1.3 pounds around on 16-20” logs all day and get back with us with a report how it treated ya. As mentioned that doesn’t even take into account the potential extra weight from a likely longer bar. Sure you can do it, but why if you don’t have to?

Now if you wanted to debate whether a ms400 makes a ms361 obsolete, we’d have more of an apples to apples discussion.;)

I’m deciding which saw to use based on 2 things. The size of the wood and how fast I want to get the job done. The 90+cc saw will noodle rounds much faster than the 70cc. Seems I get my share of huge trees (40"+) and it’s night and day trying to 1/2 or 1/4 20-24” long rounds to manageable size with 70cc (mine’s ported 65cc) vs 90+. Then there's the ability to mill just about anything with a 90+.
If I were forced to choose one, it would be the 70 class and have it ported by a reputable saw pro. The older I get, the more I pick up the lightest saw for the job.

I got the 500i to try but found it wasn't magical at all. It just had unbelievable throttle response and didn't need tuned going from 3500 feet to 7500 in elevation. The problem was the darn thing was absolutely horrible on fuel. Not very good for production if you have to fill up constantly. This wouldn't matter so much for firewood unless you were bucking up a 45,000 pound load of logs a day. You can do more to the 462 yourself. So if taking a job falling for a few days, I found the 462 great in that class. If I was in big wood, then i didn't mess around with the little 500i or 462, and grabbed my 395, and 066. I really like the 462 for a modern saw. I really wish the 661 was as good as the original 066.

    I've never had a 70cc or 90cc saw. I'm sad..but also happy I don't "need" to carry around extra weight !

Only 1.3 lbs? LOL, I spent last Saturday swinging around my 572 dropping trees. I was WORN out after about 6 hours. Ounces equals pounds equals pain :) I have a new respect for those guys running these saws day in and out.

After running the 572, my 450 rancher is LIGHT!!

Well, I'd be happy.. if the occasion was a large supply of monster trees! :dex: When you're staring at a 50" log, making 1 buck cut is very helpful so you don't have to try and match up cuts from both sides. Sometimes that can be a pita, and when the 42" bar pays dividends.

I hear you there ! I'm just glad I have a choice to not have to cut bigger trees ! Be nice to do it every now and then.... I must admit ! I've got a little time on a buddies 395xp cutting huge wood. No feeling quite like that !
