Had a much over due physical. The joys of becoming a man of a certain age, grumble, grumble. Won't go into everything I should get done and camera shoved up, however doc wants me to cut back/out coffee-WTF:hair:! Tea was mentioned as an excellent replacement :picard:SMH! I tried it today and I just think it tastes like the paper bag. Has anyone done loose leaf tea or know of a brand of tea bags that don't make your cup taste like liquid paper with a hint of tea. I don't know how well this will end as I really really am missing my pots of coffee I drank all day, I'm jonesing bad for some warm bean brown water!

Cut back to just drinking in the morning instead of all day? 4 cups instead of 12-24?
I have to have a minimum of 4 cups to get the jalopy moving at 4am, but I can’t drink it all day. My wife tried cutting out coffee and drinking tea, but came back to the pot.
There are more kinds of tea than there is fruit beers. Good luck finding a solution.

I had to do the same thing a couple of years ago. Was drinking about 50 cups a day for many years. I started making 10 cups in the pot and adding the remaining 2 cups with hot water after it was done brewing. And gradually cut down amount of cups per day. And after a few months got down to about 4 cups a day of weak coffee as i call it.

I switched from a ten cup pot to a 4 cup pot to a Keurig to a aeropress and I'm down to 1 cup a day. Often that doesn't get finished. Sometimes I don't bother. No sugar in my coffee helped with cutting back too. I swear my truck used to turn in Dunkin Donuts all on its own. You'd think retiring with all day to sit drinking coffee I'd pick up the habit again but I haven't. I will have a cup of plain tea in the afternoon in the Winter. Gotta be Red Rose though. But Red Rose does NOT make good refrigerator or sun tea.

Ugg I'm sorry! I ran across an article the other day, didn't read it but if it helps. Here's one I just google quickly:

I and understand what your saying about tea. I tried some about two weeks ago after running out of coffee and Id rather have nothing at all. I drink just two cups of coffee a day and any more than that Id be looking for a tree in 15 min. Wish I could help with a good tea.

I used to drink a pot+ daily with CREAM & sugar. Bout of diverticulitous three years ago and dr. told me no more coffee. I had that "where the sun doesnt shine" procedure done. I cut back to 3/4 pot and survived. Give me decaf and im a zombie. When i was sick (cold/flue etc) id have tea with just sugar first then coffee then quit the tea when i felt better. Last time i was sick i kept on going with tea first then coffee. I used a green tea and a mint tea bag (i love anything minty) in a large mug with sugar. Been doing this for a couple years now. I dont like green tea by itself. I figure the health benefits of the green have no downside. There are many flavored teas that may suffice rather than plain old tea. Maybe get an assortment and try them out.
Ex GF drank mint tea. I tried it and liked it. Sometimes ill make iced tea the same way.
Welcome to "old"er age and let us know how you make out.

You all know what I think about coffee. I always laugh when anyone says that it's actually good for you.

How about a beer first thing in the am? :coldone:

Maybe one or two would be better than coffee.

I fell in love with a mormon girl many years ago. I drank chicory crap for three months. It ate me up though, always felt perverted and foreign for drinking it. I had an English girlfriend in the military and she drank P&G tips tea. TWO tea bags per cup of boiling water, steeped for five minutes. She put milk and sugar in it. That was better than the chicory crap, and I'd recommend it, or find another doctor. I still drink coffee, but I don't kid it up with sugar and fluffy stuff. You will find something

I’ve drank a cup of this (almost) every day for the past about 30 years!

(the tins are practically antique, lol)

I also frequent loose leaf. I have a very good supplier at a local farmers market.

    Mostly brewed in this:
    F6AF4BA2-78C7-49E1-BC45-A058E2A38CA7.jpeg

But sometimes in one of these:
    83FA5D2D-FBFC-4492-966B-5A3F29355E3E.jpeg

    They leave no paper taste.

Absolutely hate coffee. Couple weeks ago one of my clients brought me a cup of joe @ his appointment. I felt obligated and tried it black. Nasty. So I sugared it up and put creamers in it. Tried a big ole shout full and I gaged. I will never drink it again as long as I’m alive. Done. :zip:

Best advice on tea is buy a small amount & try it out. I quit drinking coffee around the first of the year, with harvest season starting it may be a struggle this year. If I drink iced tea after about noon I don’t sleep worth a darn so I rarely drink any caffeinated stuff.

Celestial Seasonings may be your best bet for tea, caffeine free peppermint tea is nice in the winter before going to bed.

Good luck on all the new health problems. It seems to be common as we age.

I have no idea what SMH means.

I had to stop drinking coffee and stay away from all caffeine about 20 years ago. Had a hard time imagining how I could go on without coffee. What to drink in the morning. I started having a glass of orange juice when I got up and after 3 days I stopped missing the coffee and have not had any since, although I did try drinking some a couple times and couldn't stand the taste of it. My wife was a tea drinker but I never was.
