Posted a bit on this on the severe weather thread. Woke up to this yesterday am. Talked to my insurance lady first thing. File was claimed, heard from the adjuster mid morning. Got her to understand how much damage there was. She asked if we had a tree guy, told her I knew a few names but didn't have one we'd worked with. She suggested checking with a local guy she'd done claims with before, that she thought he was easy to work with and didn’t jack up prices because of dealing with insurance. Called him, he said he couldvcome just before dark. I told.him.it was a monster our mess, and that it would behoove both of us if he looked at it in good daylight. He said he could adjust what he was doing and be at my house in 45 ish min. Met him, and he was like oh chit. I was like yeah. I asked him.if he had a crane, he said no but he'd be getting one on the job. He made a phone call, crane guy showed up. They talked strategy, tree guy got a price and called the adjuster. She gave green light. Tree guy said they'd be here at 730 am.
Tree guys showed up right at 7, crane crew shortly after. They were set up by 730 and got after it. First piece they crane was 9000 lbs Craned a small piece or two, then this big on3. Said it was 17,000 lbs. Crane did a bit more, then packed up and left. Tree crew has been cutting, limbing, chipping and piling big wood. Still at it with the bucket getting more limbs that they didn't need the crane for. I think they'll be here most all of the day, hopefully they can get it done in one
Amazingly, there doesn't seem to be any damage to the mower that I can find. The utv is ok for the most part...a little something got tweaked because the windshield is not lined up quite like it was...
Certainly agree that is not the preferred method of getting more wood. Just glad you are safe and nothing more was smashed or destroyed.!!
I second Ronaldo’s post. Not the way to go about it but thankfully not worse. Both the insurance and tree guy were very prompt. That doesn’t happen often either. Keep us apprised.
And they're done and gone, left probably 30 min ago. They didn't play around and did a very good job. I have a significant pile of wood to cut in the yard, more in the woods (on the back side of sheds was accessed from pasture, easier to tram limbs and wood to woodline). And they chipped a good amount of wood that I would usually cut for firewood. But as hot as it is and as much of a mess as I have to deal with, I wasn't going to worry about it... I need to straightened up s bit. In the yard and driveway, but they left it very good for the amount of work and skidsteering that was done. I had no idea it would get addressed this fast, much less cut and cleaned up. Pretty surprising.
Sounds like dealing with the the tree service & insurance was a very good experience. Glad they got on the ball & got things done quickly. Maybe you can get a hook up for future firewood scores from the tree service.
Yes, so far so good. Adjuster hasn't been out to look at the shed damage yet, I have an untrusting feeling about that, but well see. I asked the guy if he burned wood, figuring that would open the convo about wood, and he said no but he sells wood. So I didn't ask further. I honestly have more wood available than I have time to cut it. But dump loads would be nice.
Thanks. You don't realize how much even a mediocre to crappy shed is useful until you don't have it....
Ooph!!! Tough way to get free wood. Glad there was no injury (other than material possessions) and the insurance and tree service came through. As bad as it is i always say it couldve been worse.
