Earlier this morning I posted a thread entitled "HOT!"....I went on to discuss how Hot it will be.. With that said, I just couldn't resist doing some splitting.. I got my trusty 5-ton Power mate out and started splitting away around 12 Noon. Got through about a face cord of rounds. Hickory, Oak and some Silver Maple. Noticed something interesting. I had about 20 Oak rounds that I cut last May. Roughly 6-8" across in diameter...Checked the inside with my moisture meter...Mind you...Cut last May and facing the sun and wind....OL!!!!! Which on my meter means over 30% moisture. Lesson learned with the Oak...No more rounds over 4"....Oh ...one more thing...Its HOT!!!
I had some some 1 1/2-2” WO limbs and cut them to 16” length....4 years ago. Last year some of them still sizzled so wait another year. Tested a few in the fire pit this summer.....out of a dozen pieces, 2 offered a tiny bit of the darned little bubbles....
