So I thought I had the AWF date code thing worked out last year, but no... Based on the code stamped on my most recently received batch, it's clear I was not interpreting it correctly. I know it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, but I'm just curious.

Here's the code on a bag from last season. The code is 5293. I was interpreting that as 2015 / 29th day / of March, or 3/29/2015:

However, I just checked the code on a bag from the new stack and they are marked 5327:

So based on those two codes, you can rule some stuff out:

Can't be day 32 of the month
Can't be 53rd week of anything
Can't be 93rd anything of anything

So about the only thing I can come up with that works for both those codes is that the first digit is the year, and the following three digits are the day of that year.

    5293 would be the 293rd day of 2015 ?
    5327 would be the 327th day of 2015 ?

    Anyone have insight?

Common to use a Julian date. I think you figured it out.

    Thanks guys.

And interesting to note that I'm burning pellets that have been sitting on the skid for over three years, presumably outside. The last batch was triple wrapped, and I'm still pulling off the top of the stack. So far, so good. They seem to be burning fine.
