More than 100 million in the US face excessive warning or heat advisories as a dangerous heat wave continues - CNN

Dangerous levels of heat are forecast in the South, West and Midwest on Tuesday, according to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Here’s the latest. About 68.7 million people — 21 percent of the population of the contiguous United States — live in the areas expected to have dangerous levels of heat. One-third of the US population is under heat advisories and excessive heat warnings today and tomorrow, and more than 80% of the US population (around 265 million Americans) will see a high above 90 degrees over the next seven days.

Oranges and red colors show where high temperatures are forecast above 90 degrees Wednesday.

The National Weather Service recommends that people drink fluids, stay in cooler rooms, keep out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors, especially older people and those who live alone.

Stay hydrated fellow Hoarders, If you don't drink enough water, you may become dehydrated. This means your body doesn't have enough fluid to operate properly. Your urine can be an indicator if you're dehydrated. If it's colorless or light yellow, you're well hydrated.

Thanks, Wildwest, today hit 103 degrees with the rest of the week expected to be above 100 for highs. This summer is shaping up to be one for the history books, time will tell.

It’s warm no doubt but we have seen this historically. Nothing new really. The agenda will probably have something to say though.

50 and sunny is good in my book. Just went out and filled the garden. 5 beers just for something to sweat out. Came to the conclusion our garden is way too big and we don’t need 2 of them.

I’d be willing to bet that the warm temperatures, even if the same as the past, are a bigger threat today due to an aging and generally obese and sedentary population. Those three characteristics alone will cause more people to be vulnerable to extremes in weather..

Just like opening Bus for warming shelters and homeless shelters for those in the winter time.... There's always going to be a certain population that is going to be effected...

I'm wondering just how the electrical grid is doing with all the warnings about brown outs we heard earlier this year?

    Anyone having problems?

Last week, Texans were asked twice to voluntarily conserve energy at home as record demand put stress on the power grid. Some of the factors that can cause grid stress include higher-than-expected outages at natural gas- and coal-fired power plants, low winds that reduce wind turbine output, increased cloud coverage that hinders solar power generation and extremely high temperatures that increase demand.

We are not even into the hottest two months of the year (August and September) and our state-run power grid (ERCOT) is having supply and demand issues!

Back in the 60's I remember people fainting. Seems it was mostly kids. It was typically during church and let me tell you, when a body drops into the pew.....it makes a lot of noise!

    Hot spells.......:picard:

I was going to respond something like that... Cause Sunday I went to Costco and a EMT's and a fire wagon was at a church... I'm guessing someone must of passed out or had medical emergency... Heck when I got Confirmed the Pastor had a heart attack and basically fell into my arms and my buddy's arms during the service... now that was interesting... Yes he lived and the service went on after they got him sent to the hospital....Now that was scary...
