So I just moved into this house less than a year ago.. still been exploring the property. It’s only 5 acres but it’s taken me a while to cover it. Anyways the other day I was walking around on the other side of the creek and ran across a very large Osage orange tree that recently fell.. so I fired up the ms271 and went to work.. I’ve heard many people say they throw sparks and dull chains fast.. but I cut all of that without a problem.. chain was still sharp when I stopped cutting
Great find, do you have a way to get it back to the house? Too many tales of cut wood disappearing lately.
I cut and burned some of that wood 15 years ago or so. That stuff is wonderful. I’m glad you found it and can use it. The stuff I cut was fairly easy and I split some by hand but it was green. If it actually seasons and dries proper then it’s tough stuff to deal with
Any blow overs in my woods are great to find. Unfortunately I have had too many black willows by the stream going down...and they have been around 50 inches in diameter, not putting time into processing any willow...I work around them and let them rot...just cut limbs and toss to the side so I can get by and around. I did find a couple of Elm and Ash and Black Cherry that came down some time during the winter...looks like I keep going.
Congrats on the home and woods purchase! It’s been the best choice I ever made. It’s become a way of life for me. So, you just have the one chainsaw then? We’ll have to fix that!
i have 3! 20" stihl 18"craftsman and a 14" poulan. ive already found another downed osage. i know i have 2 large standing dead trees that will be coming down. i just have to wait till spring to find them again lol Yep i love the rural life.. way better than city life thats for sure
Started hauling it back to the house today.. found two more Osage trees down.. gotta cut them up and move them out. Not bad for a 500$ quad. Had transmission problems when I got it, well actually it still does lol it won’t move under its own power until it’s up to its full operating temperature..
