This is the way this landed when it came off the dump trailer. I figure I will tip it over on its side (the front) with the rope puller, to buck it, but first whack off the limb nub that is left there in the first picture, as you can see, I whacked off one limb nub already, is that the best way to do it? yes , no? The first pic I will call the left side and the second is the front. There is about 22 inches under the limbs
I would.....split off the nub on your "left" side, then spin it 90* and split down thru the nub you've already cut. Or noodle it, but you have a big hydraulic rig, so I'd go vertical and let it earn its keep.
I don't think there will be any spinning, gotta get it on its side in buck it up, then I can noodle, it's 27" diameter at the bottom and 45" tall, green oak.
You could cut for the stove size and just deal with the shorties. 15" wood is a compromise either way you slice it.
I will probably have to re measure after I get laying down, top is kind of crooked may have to even it out
That might be a possibility if I had a way to move that big beatch around. Or I can drill a big hole in it and fill it with Tannerite
I would just knock the nub off the left then if to big to move any I would just cut 4-6 in cookies from the top down.
or you could roll it over the hill and move on--don't you hate to waste too much time on one log especially a difficult thing like that--production shouldn't be slowed because of a big brute--apt to make you angry or damage equipment--just my take...
Yes, you cut that right HD. But once again, I would not noodle it. Holy cow, that is oak! Why noodle? You have a sledge and wedges, I think. Use them. Split it once then make the cuts and finish the splitting with the hydraulics. But then, the tannerite could be interesting too...
I might try splitting it up with Sledge and wedge, depends on the grain. I split up a Big Slab yesterday with wedges ,I got a new 8 pound Sledge/Maul, definitely has more driving force then the 6 pound
