I have a raised 12x12 platform in the back that I am considering putting a custom carport on and wrapping 3 of the sides in chicken or garden fencing so I have covered, open air wood storage. Because I am torn about possibly putting a wood shed on there instead, I like this idea because the metal roofed carport can be easily swapped out. Has anybody out there used a metal carport for a firewood storage shed? It would come with a sticker price living in the PNW but I really like the idea of having dry, covered firewood and not playing the ugly and messy tarp game.

    For example:

Build a carport, garage, or metal building online!

Would a canvas roof on a chain link fence dog kennel be cheaper /sturdier / suffice ?

Good idea. But this structure sits directly out back and we're going to be looking at it daily. A dog kennel might be a tough sell to the wifey.

Lots of folks have used carports for wood sheds, including one of our neighbor's. They work great. As for sides, you can if you wish put a wire fence on the sides for keeping the wood from falling over and keeping it looking a bit neater but is not necessary if you so wish.

Here is our neighbor's woodshed which we filled during out spring GTG.

Naturally that thing will hold more wood if it were stacked but we've found that this is just about perfect for the amount of wood he burns in his owb (we did this for him last year too).

Oh, I'll definitely put garden fencing/other on the sides. I want to stack it cleanly.
