I wish I took more pics but I was pretty busy. My uncle and a close friend helped replace the clutch in my 01 Ram 2500 with a 24v 5.9 cummins and the 6 speed NV5600 trans. The clutch has been slipping for about a year and a half but got really bad in the last 3 weeks. Everything was pretty smooth except getting the cross member out, had to use a bottle jack and wedge the frame apart.... not fun. And getting the trans input shaft into the pilot bearing was a bear. Took about 2.5 hours of wiggling, jacking and brute fore to get it in.... Tomorrow we need to reinstall the cross member, not looking forward to that, and reinstall shifters and drive shafts. Here's the few pics I have. Note the rivets on the linings. They shouldn't be shiny and the discoloration on the flywheel and pressure plate isn't good either....
Ah yes. The joys of three pedal trucks. Whatcha put back in it for a clutch? Flywheel was re-surfaced I hope?
South bend street dual disk. Yes, comes with new flywheel, new throwout, new throwout yolk...... badass
Sounds like fun, sorry I missed it. You should have arranged it so this was a "hands on" wood hauler repair module at a GTG
actually a flywheel, 2 friction plates and a floater. NV5600, very ambitious project in the garage. Might as well get the upgraded hydraulics ordered the factory won't last very long, if at all.
Hydros were done a year ago when they failed... yes, a floater. Since the floater is keyed to the flywheel it is essentially another flywheel. The dual disk essentially doubles friction surface area. It has organic and ceramic facings... 2 of each.
Haha, multi-stage dry clutches in a pickup? Wow. Should last longer than the truck for sure. I'd be interested to hear if you get any chatter on engagement.
They fixed the chatter with Kevlar buttons on the flanges of the floater where it keys to the flywheel. It makes a dull bumping noise from what I hear but no where near the klatter of the older designs. Should be quieter than a ducati open/dry clutch anyway...... Horkn
Yeah, lots of these things floatin around the truck-pulls...much more user friendly than they used to be. Used to be pretty r-R-r-R-rough! And sounded like you were about to DNF!
Yeah I haven't seen a truck or car with a wet clutch yet. But wondered if anything aftermarket had come out with all the diesel truck mods that are out there today.
They would need to cool the clutch with a circulated fluid..... I don't think diesel crank oil would be too clutch friendly.
