Been meaning to ask... anyone every burned crepe myrtle? You see these as small, ornamental trees. I found some at the dump big enough to be worth grabbing. Big being 3-5 inches diameter, lol. Wow, is that stuff dense. I got this two or three years ago, been drying since, still uber dense and heavy. Seems it would be good firewood. Makes one heckuva ding/ring sound when you slap two together. I dunno but it seems it might make a good axe handle but what do I know.
Never heard of it until now. A lot of shrubs and ornamental trees have dense wood, but are slow growing and dont get that big so not really recognized as firewood, but as Timberdog said, dry and dense, great wood! Try burning some. Someone posted a thread recently about shrub stalks as wood. Mightve been Midwinter
Dense, heavy, and dry. Likely packed with btu's. Have never heard of it before. Let us know how it burns.
I think that was the Yew discussion. No crepe myrtle in NH, but I have burned rhododendron and lilac. Both were pretty dense woods.
Sounds similar to Dwarf Alberta Spruce wood. I have a few rounds from my sister/brother inlaws place. The stuff was a bear to split. I have one from probably 6+ years ago; looks fine and no signs of rot.
I cut a bush of it down at our house. You are right, it’s very dense. I cut mine into short pieces and split it for kindlin. Burnt great
