Just scored 2/3 of a cord of eucalyptus off craigslist free ads. It blew down a few nights ago in a monsoon storm and the owner had it cut up into liftable rounds ( though just barely ). He said he cut it all up with a small electric saw and the chain was pretty dull by the time he was done. Eucalyptus is very dense with a crooked grain and not fun to split but burns hot and long if seasoned for a couple years. And that is okay by me. Probably going to be 2021 before it gets burned anyway. Gotta love the Arizona monsoon!
A tree surgeon left me some eucalyptus once, after splitting it by hand I now know why it is given away! Like you say, good heat when seasoned, just split it ASAP...
I burn a lot of ash, mesquite, eucalyptus, and lodgepole pine in my Hearthstone stove. And any other wood I can find for free!
