Well I went to cock my crossbow this afternoon and heard a ripping sound. Its an excalibur axe 340, a recurve crossbow. 1007231645b.jpg

The limb is trash. I contacted excalibur but its the weekend of Canadian thanksgiving. They are based out of Canada. Guess ill see what they come up with. Hoping not to be out of commission too long.

Its crazy because i barely shoot it. Its always dead nuts on and does exactly what it should do. I probably haven't shot it more than 300 times since I got it in 2019.

Well that's a bummer. Do you leave it cocked for anytime more than the current hunt?

No, I cock it for the hunt and uncock it when the hunt is over. I even take the string off entirely for the 9 months of storage. They call it resting the limbs and its reccomemded. The older excalibur models have much longer limbs. The current offerings are "micros" and are faster and much more compact. Maybe its a case of trying to fly too close to the sun. I also shoot heavy arrows or bolts.

Glad you found it before a hunt and it didn't come apart on you when firing it.

Yeah im with you on that. I was disappointed but I'm really counting my blessings on this one. There is a heck of a lot of potential energy sitting right in front of my face when the crossbow is cocked.

I'm sure it would be a totally different injury, but we were at my sisters place earlier this summer and my nephews got their cheap lil BB guns out and we were all shooting at the woodpile...pretty soon the bow comes out...nobody noticed that one of the arrows was cracked...and when nephew #2 shot it, he got a hand full of glass splinters...spent a few hours at the ER and said he was cutting glass out of his hands for weeks...and probably still doesn't have it all...that's an injury I never thought of before!

Excalibur sent the limbs to my old address. I told them I can't get them from there. They had the package sent back to them, it looks like it got back to them on Friday.

I haven't been able to hunt for almost two weeks. They should have just sent another set of limbs to the right address. I'm glad I wasn't on a hunting trip of a lifetime, I would have had buy another crossbow. I have been looking at other brands but it looks like they all have their failure points.

You'd think they would have confirmed the correct address before shipping.....

I'm totally with you on that. Fast shipping is pointless if the parcel is not going where it needs to go.

15 days for 2 limbs and the hardware. 1024231745a.jpg

Its just torx bolts taking the old limbs on and putting the new ones on.

Got everything back together just before dark and went to sight the crossbow in. Paced off about 20 to 25 yards.

New limbs and its still dead nuts on. This bow is impressive... When the limbs don't break.

    Way more penetration.

I can't believe that it didn't need sighted in. The new limbs feel like they require more force to cock the crossbow. I am absolutely underwhelmed with excalibur customer service. I would have been much better off calling, still they should have checked where to send the limbs.

I'm going to buy a spare set of limbs and when they break again excalibur will send a spare for free. It'll be cheaper than buying a spare crossbow. I can change the limbs out in less than an hour, just double checking everything etc. The new limbs look the same but who knows. Excited to finally get out and hunt.

Agree, surprised that it stayed zeroed. I guess that's a good thing about the Excalibur style...you can change them out fairly easily yourself.

That's a large part of the appeal of excalibur. Changing a string or limbs and it can be done in the field with a few tools. A compound bow or compound crossbow requires a press and knowhow. Most hunters aren't going to have either.

Ordered the spare limbs today. I asked the lady where she was sending them to. She gave me the wrong address. :hair:
Come on lady. Great product and they stand behind it but their customer care people are downright aggravating. I'm glad I asked her the address or I would have gone through the same BS again.
