A few months ago I recall reading a thread about some different industrial poly and/or canvas suppliers for using as firewood covers.... can't for the life of me find the thread/references...

Anyone have the link for the industrial poly rolls .... ?

Dave's right. I've used them for a couple years now. Good stuff.

Stinny's source is good. Really tough tarps and clear so the top of your stack gets the solar gain. I'm happy with mine. Going to get myself some additional clear tarpage once a log load shows up......

I think I need to figure something else out too. I scrounged some vinyl siding that was used as the "skirting" for a mobile home, but I'm finding I need to adjust it constantly. Some good options here, and on that other thread too. Someone on my local CL just posted a brand new 20'x25' roll of 45 mil EPDM for $225. That would be enough to cover all of my stacks around the garage. Looks like that's a pretty good price, though 3x more expensive than the greenhouse tarps.

I was thinkin, if anyone had access to cheap/free metal roofing, it could be really easy to use as a top cover. It comes in 3' wide so having a bunch of them 5' to 6' long would allow double stacks, with overhang in the front and back, that could go on... forever. Each 3' section overlaps the next. Hold down with weight or ropes, etc. It would be really easy to break into at any point, to take from the stash.

Yeah, rub in in whydoncha... :emb: Could have got my hands on a 20'x70' mobile home worth of tar covered galvanized; same one I got the vinyl from. It all went in the dumpster though. :headbang:

Galvanized roofing is the best way to go as far as in concerned. I don't have a source for any free though, and it's expensive new. And I don't like messing with tarps, so I don't top cover

I'm still looking to score some free used roofing EPDM, but no luck yet. I have a bunch of leftover roofing panel that is 36" wide and Stinny is right on that works great, but right now my stacks are single wide, and I'm not sure I want to cut them down the middle to 18" wide just yet. Might do it though..

What I'm trying to do, is we have a big camper place by my home that gets a lot of repair work and the service manager was telling me he would get me some used camper awnings that they replace when they get torn or damaged. He said he has used them for years and just cuts them to size for his stacks and there good and heavy. I thought it was a good idea, but he hasn't come through for me yet either....

So YSBW (the link above) is just a reseller selling stock. All the clear tarps they have are 4 or more feet wide. I want to find somebody that will make it to custom sizes (I asked them, they wont). I want some of it 30" wide which will cover a 18" stack, with 6" of overhang on each side.

Anyone know where that can be found.... ? I want a nice thick, clear plastic with some grommets along the edges and corners, 30" wide by 6, 8 or 10 feet long.

Did you check out that other thread that Grizzly posted about? http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/threads/looking-for-stack-covers.4312/ There were some type of removeable grommets discussed in there. There was another place in that link that sold recycled billboard material in all different sizes, and I think it had grommets along the edge.

These guys make heavy custom vinyl tarps for me. Last one I had made was 9x22. $76 + shipping. Grommets and reinforcement and the works.
Prolly if u didn't care the color/multicolor , they could throw together a cheap long lasting tarp out of scraps.

I own a dumpster/hauling company and the metal roof scraps and rubber roofing is endless.

Yes, not what I'm looking for. I don't want to use those removable grommets, have them and hate them. ;) The billboard place does not have the size I'm looking for, and wont make custom, asked them as well.

Will try. I currently use my marine canvas guy, who will make me anything I want. But it gets expensive, he's using expensive marine grade canvas and materials, and I'm paying for his labor.... He just made me a few covers for specif racks I have built that will never change, but now I just want some generic covers I can use on any single row stack I create....

Thanks. I hate the metal stuff (loud in rain, difficult to fasten tight, looks like crap....). What is the "rubber roofing" everyone keeps mentioning?

Commercial flat roof buildings have a heavy rubber membrane roof. Schools are our biggest customer. See a dumpster by a school/bank tight to the building with roof activity. Check it out.

Good thread, looking for something a little more longer lasting and will take the UV abuse.

I am going to try it the exact other way- thin plastic sheeting I will treat as disposable. Like painting drop "cloth". Someone above made reference to 45 mil. sheeting.... that is quite thick and rigid but I believe it will deteriorate badly enough in a year or two from sunlight that it will not be usable for much more than that.
