Rain moved in so we came back to dry out & get read for a 10 day or so hunt.
Trees stands done, climbing trees done. Starting to see some signs.
Hoping for clear cold weather to move in.

Hope I don't see him. Want a moose not a bear.
One about 400 yards north up the game trail from my stand

Then another about 100 yards south of the stand.

Top claw marks over 9' up, not sure how tall that makes him.
    Not a cub though.

Made 2 climbing trees. I like to get up high & look around the area.

I cut my way up a white spruce & get a good view from near 40' up.
Sit on the limbs rest, look around then.

My mark on the tree is a lot higher up than the bear's mark, hope he takes note !

Couple other pics . was out looking for a few climbing trees,
found some good moose areas .
    Not always climbable trees though,
These black spruce are next to impossible to climb :

Muskeg all around the black spruce. Like walking on a moss water bed, sink in 6 to 12", hard walking & tough on my hip joints.
Like walking up hill all day, tiring. :(

Another muskeg meadow, some birch & white spruce on the eges to climb &/or make a tree stand. :

With a view like that theres no way you can't get a good read on whats happening around you, bears included.
Do you holster a sidearm along with your rifle?

    Some carry, but I don't.
I don't worry too much about bears (except if the get into camp & make a mess)
Bears here usually run from humans.

That's a good sized bear for sure. Clawing 9' up he's probably a 6-7' bear.

Yea, we try to get the meat away from the gut pile ASAP.
Have them come in on the gut pile all the time. (in some heavy bear areas the next day)
    Usually takes a few days,
When going back for another trip of meat, we go in " loaded for bear "

They cover up the gut pile to take possession & let it get ripe,

The meat don't give off much odor, so meat hanging in camp is usually safe.

Nice! You got some altitude there. When I was deer 10 or 12 ft was too high...

40' is a bit higher than we go here. I was putting a stand up this afternoon. It was enjoyable.

    My stand is about 10',
these are climbing tees, for look-around purposes

After a while in the stand, I like to walk around , climb way up & have a look around the area.
We put several climbing trees, find ones that we can use to look over a big area. On the
ground, I can't see over the 10' & higher brush.
So climb up high & have a "look see"
