Couple 14s, a 12, and a 10

Took two decent size Pine down this afternoon and was able to get some decent logs out of them.

 

Looking good Gas, did you have any time to process the logs at all? Or are they all just down on the ground?

 

Thanks. All the branches trimmed off and they are cut to length. I will fell several more tomorrow and get them ready. Then move all the logs at once to the lay down area I cleared today.

 

One of the trees I decided to take had the top broke right off it and a few small branches were on their way turning up to become the new top. But there was still a good 13 feet of straight trunk that was over 14" across. Great for what he needs.

 

Gotcha, gonna skid em out and buck later at the clearing. Do you like cutting the frozen wood?

 

Nope. Only bucking what I can't sell as logs with this Pine. I have a guy who wants some Pine logs for building. He is closing on his first piece of property soon. Amish. His father lives close by where he is buying land and has his own mill. First he will build a simple building to shelter the family while they build their house, barn, chicken coop, etc.

 

Oooookay. I measured up all the White Pine logs I have cut for my Amish friend. I am now at 1400 bd. ft. in logs. Just 100 more bd. ft. and his order is finished. I will cut a decent size log to get over the top tomorrow morning. Those logs, and the 710 bd. ft. of White Ash we settled on, will be delivered to his father's saw mill, 30 miles away, on Saturday morning. Two loads on my neighbor friend's trailer. Keeping it ALL very local!

 

One load gone, I had lunch, and he should be returning anytime for the second load. And customer paid me in full. Wind is picking up now.

Do you know if he is planning to air dry that on site at all before he builds with it?

 

Sorry sherwood. I missed this question before. He said he and his father will cut it up on the mill, then stick it so it will dry in the wind. But they did not have long to let it dry. He needed to get a small building up so he and his family could live in it while they build their house and barn. I have spoke to him a couple of times since then. He closed on the property, the beginning of March I think he said. Two nights ago now he stopped by my place to see how I was coming along on his 24' logs for his barn. He told me he and a couple others built his first small building. So I am guessing the first lumber from these logs in this thread did not have long to dry. Maybe two weeks. And the weather has not been good. We have had some sunny days. And some with wind. But we have also had some with rain and snow, and plenty of clouds. I guess the wood will be drying in place. LOL
