I have a confession. I met someone new. I have fallen in love with - my toaster/convection oven. He's wonderful. Almost zero heat up time, even cooking, less wasted energy, and little cleanup. What more could a girl ask for? I don't want to go back to the big clunkers of the past.
Sounds great DB. Post some recipes and pics if you would. My fiancé picked one out from an awards site at work. It is a six piece toaster/ oven. We haven't pulled it out of the box yet, we are still moving things to the house.
Devils, our neighbors at the lake have been singing the praises of toaster ovens for years! More recently, my "computer man" has told me how much his wife enjoys one. Question is, what features should I look for? What brand do you have? Etc. Etc.
Ummm, I could say something here but....I'm not gonna Little cleanup sounds like a good quality hahaha
I haven't had much luck with the small toaster ovens for under $30. My friend remodeled her kitchen and gave me a larger Hamilton Beach oven. The one I have can broil, toast, and bake. I'm hooked. I even ordered a two tier model last week so I can bake larger quantities (waiting for it to be shipped). I can't recommend much more because I am new to this. I will say that I love how quick the mini oven heats up. Preheating takes about two seconds. I've never owned a new large oven before so I have always had to put up with the awful, finicky cooking of older models. I'm honestly considering ditching the big oven completely if I ever buy a house. I only use the cooktop on the model I have.
I've got a large one that I use quite a bit. I don't remember the make off the top of my head, but it was a gift from a work gift exchange. I want to say it was around the 50 dollar mark 3-4 years ago. It will hold a large frozen pizza, i could bake a small turkey if I really wanted to. mine has convection/broil/toast and regular bake as well. being a single guy and always on the go and working stupid hours, its ideal for me. I rarely use my regular oven unless I'm season cast iron or cooking a large meal for a family dinner. No more waiting 20 minutes for the oven to heat up for a batch of cookies, or garlic bread, or anything.. I love it, but you have to adjust your cooking times slightly. I've burnt a few things thinking 350 or 400 on the toaster oven bake was 350 or 400 in a regular oven. that is the only downside, oh and not all my regular pans will fit in it.
I bought one a few years ago. Higher end one. Has a rotisserie for chicken in it although I haven't used this option yet. Its awesome . The thing I like the most about it is the timer and toast feature. Grilled ham/cheese or anything rewarmed on a piece of tinfoil leaves zero to clean up. Pizza and subs rewarmed in this thing are 100 times better tasting than in the wave. I'll shut the pilots off to my gas stove in the summer and use it all the time= less heat in house and $ savings.
Thanks Devils! I'm going to put one on my wish list for Christmas. Again, if anyone can recommend one over another, I would appreciate it!
We managed to not starve for over a year with only a convection microwave and propane grill, no food or pizza delivery here. We still use the convection/micro as our microwave now. I have a friend that is an amazing chef, and she will swear by her old toaster oven (nonconvection).
