The other day I had a small project to do. It called for 8 nuts and bolts of a certain size. The project itself should've only taken 10 minutes but it took me a half hour digging thru cans to find the right nuts and bolts. So,,, yesterday I started dumpin stuff out on the bench and sorting.

Didn't get near done but I was getting so cross eyed from sizing I finally quit for the day.

I finally cleaned my work bench off today. Well really I was trying to find the bulb for the wife's van turn signal. I knew they were on the bench. Right under everything else. I keep telling myself I need to organize nuts, bolts and nails. Some of the cans were my great grandfathers so it tells you how long I've been saying that.

Funny how we all enjoy knowing that we are not alone in having disaster areas that need our attention. And yes, Yooperdave, there lies the problem of cleaning things up.

The hardest part for me is putting stuff away where it belongs. I've developed a sort of photographic memory of where I last put something. When I go look for it, I'm really close finding it. So I reason not to sweat putting away stuff since I generally know where it will be. But an unorganized workspace is not as productive as it is intended to be. I am sometimes disappointed when something is not where I last left it. Guilty here too.

IMG_2332.jpg IMG_2331.jpg Mine is not much better ,although all cans are labeled so I know what's in them ,as you can see that bench doubles as storage area for left overs in the cold months .

Bought our house from my wife's grandmother's estate. Got a good price but part of the deal was after the rummage sale it was ours to clean out. Talk about an experience from why the heck would you save this to hey look what I found under the pile of old burlap sacks. Was kinda like a scavenger hunt. Wife found $350 stuffed in a bed frame rail and I found socket sets, wrenches, old paper shot gun shells and a box that Cuban cigars came in.

That's an impressive collection of nuts and bolts Butcher! Years ago when I filled up about 2 small coffee cans of nuts and bolts, I broke down and bought some bin shelving. It's saved a tremendous amount of time searching for those random parts you need! It's about time for me to invest in a second set of shelves and bins, the first one is filled up now.
