I just finished up making a jig for the mill so I can slice some cookies. This is what I came up with. Showing the overall jig. This will sit on the rails and get clamped in place at the four corners. Adjustable for different size logs and logs that might not be perfectly round by sliding the green uprights in and out as needed. Adjustable for logs up to 22 inches in diameter ( that is max for my mill anyway ). The green uprights will sit below the log bunks when not in use so I should be able to just leave it on the mill once installed. The only drawback is I will have to sacrifice the last 4 inches of the log that is clamped in the green posts. Guess that will become chunks for the stove. Will post some pictures when I get it in place and give it a test run. cookie jig 2.jpg cookie jig 3.jpg

    LOL..

I better make sure it works before even considering that.
Anxious to see what happens but mother nature might put the cease and desist order on that Saturday. Possible major snow , just have to wait and see.

Can’t you make spacers to go under the logs so you can still make cookies out of the last 4”? Maybe make some 2.5-3” rounds that vary in diameter at two inch intervals from 8” to 20”? Just need to be thick enough to raise the piece and still let the bolts hold the piece securely in place…

That is pretty cool. I would like to see a picture of it with the saw to give me more of a visual on how it is going to work.

Thats the plan but weather might not let me go out and play for a little bit.
Snow in forecast probably going to throw a monkey wrench in the mix.

I will post some pictures when up and running.

Be patient , might be a while if we get big snow like they are saying.

So what kind of plans do you have for the cookies once you get to cutting.

No real plans at the moment other than someone asked if I could make them a clock and I did want a few small rounds that I could use for a serving type tray for small cast-iron pans.
Didn't make it just for that but just to have as an accessory for the mill.

Nice work !!! on my mill I have the hydraulic clamping so I am able to clamp the piece between 2 blocks of 4x4 to cut them I have a customer that makes walkways out of locust discs for what you can get for selling the discs I would not worry about that last 4 inch chunk . wedding centerpieces for the table are another sale for them JB

    Thanks JB.

I have heard of the for wedding centerpieces and steppingstones for gardens as well. Something I need to look into a little more to see what the market is for them around here. I do see some advertised on craigslist and they are getting pretty good money for them so I will have to see about maybe selling some of them.
    I appreciate your input!

I usually get 1.50-2.50 a disc for the walkway discs( I had to do 1200 of them one time ) they are usually 4-8 inch the wedding discs can really vary I have gotten up to 15.00 for some 12 inch elm discs that had a interesting pattern in them remember these are unfinished right off the mill prices you could get more if you finish them Good Luck JB

That came out awesome! You are one excellent fabricator. Looks like it should work fine. I can see some nice locust cookies coming off that, no chocolate chip though.

Ive made oak cookies for Ms. buZZsaw's daughters wedding (centerpieces) and some cedar and BL cookies for a ladies garden. Made with chain saw of course.

Too bad about the snow this weekend. Cant wait to see its trial run.

Not to worry , I will let you know when it's going to get the test run. You are on the invitation list.
Yeah , who knows on snow , really going to screw up hoarding and milling plans if we do get hit.

How do you stabilize the cookies to prevent cracking?

Not sure. I do know they do sell a sealer that is supposed to slow the drying. This is still new to me
